MC 11 =>12 update on multiple computers?
« on: November 19, 2007, 01:33:12 pm »

I understand that upgrading from MC11 to MC12 requires a licensed copy of MC11 to be installed, but it is not entirely clear whether this continues to be true indefinitely in the future.  If I update the copy on my server computer, and then later add a client computer which does not have MC11 installed, do I have to
install MC11 first to get MC12 to work on that machine also?  (Even though I may have an install key from
the first installation.)  Or do I get a new registration code which works from then on without installing MC11?

No.  Once you have a valid MC12 registration key, that is all you need to use to install and license MC12.  Having MC11 installed is only needed to complete the purchase in order to receive the upgrade pricing.  Once the purchase is complete, and you have your key, you're fine.  You can then just download the current MC12 build, install it, license it (restoring if needed), and go.

And, to be clear, unlike most software JRiver allows you to use the same license on more than one personal computer in your home (for example, a desktop machine and a laptop, or a HTPC and an office PC).  If you have absurd numbers of machines, or you want to license multiple machines in an office setting, additional licenses may be required.  For most home users, one "purchase" of MC is all you need, even if you have a two or three computers.
