I have been playing with different DVD database structuring, and I am looking into making it universal to all my media center players. Media Center 12 is the only one that seems to require the VIDEO_TS folder. Are there any ways around this, meaning to not having the VIDEO_TS folder? But just having the folder.jpg and DVD video files in the one named folder.

Here is what I mean. I have the movie "Bambi" ripped off a DVD into a network drive filed in the Bambi folder. During the ripping process it creates a folder "VIDEO_TS where all the IFO/VOB files are created. So I am left with this directory "/Bambi/VIDEO_TS/". Now all my other media players do NOT need the VIDEO_TS folder. Media Center 12 uses this target file  "/Bambi/VIDEO_TS/video_ts" to list the movie name (and cover art) in the video veiw screen to execute the movie. If I remove the VIDEO_TS folder and place all the VOB/IFO files directly in the folder named Bambi, Media Center 12 will display the cover art, however it lists the movies name as "video_ts" instead of calling it "Bambi".

By removing the VIDEO_TS folder and placing the video files (VOB/IFO) in the folder named "Bambi", it makes the rest of my media players easier to use.

Any ideas or input on this? Thanks in advance.

Lightbulb moment!

I do not use the Video_TS folder and have been confused for several months as to why MC calls movies VIDEO_TS...therefore I can't use Auto Import.

If this issue was resolved I would be in better shape.  I never realized using the VIDEO_TS folder would fix the [Name] field automatically.

So yes, I would definitely like this "fixed" "improved" etc.

I'm guessing there would be no way around this, unless something was edited in the program itself to read the folders differently.  Any place I can post for "bugs and fixes" even though it's not really a bug? Not sure if this is even possible.

It's a feature request.  This entire category is devoted to this kinda stuff.

In my experience: when NOT using VIDEO_TS, MC imports the DVDs with [Name]="VIDEO_TS"

Apparently, when USING VIDEO_TS, MC imports the DVDs with [Name]="...folder name (not VIDEO_TS)"

You right, the video_ts folder is not required by MC, but like benn mentions, the name of the file becomes video_ts.  If I do NOT use the VIDEO_TS folder, would I have to tag the IFO file in MC12 for every DVD I have ripped?

its been awhile snce i had my files in ifo/vob. did not use the ts folder also. had the files in a folder named after the movie. after import i rightclicked on the file. choose library tools>fill properties from filename. select directories. and put [name] after that. voila. the name of the files in mc is the same as the directory aka the name of the movie. when that works for one, you can do a bunch at the same time.

All I need to put in is [Name].

My complaint is that we have 5 MC databases.  Mine, our server database, and three other family members.  I cannot use Auto Import because it overwrites DVD tags (in MC) and essentially destroys the usability of the DVDs.

So I have to manually add movies in.  This consists of importing the Video folder and then filling properties/quick finding cover art.

If the default could be changed to use [Name] instead of VIDEO_TS, then this would save me a TON of work and greatly improve everything.  Of course I wish there was some way to store custom tags in DVD files, too.  Then I could simply set the tags and the other databases would pick them up and I could use more than just [Name].
