Suggested bitrate for tapes.
« on: August 12, 2002, 04:45:15 pm »

What would anyone suggest as a good quality compression for cassettes using vbr mp3?  I want really as good a quality as I can get, but there is no need for major overkill either.  I used vbr mp3 high for my cd's.

128 k would probably be more than you need but I personally would not go lower for CBR (I know you didn't ask but I told you anyway) For VBR, "normal" would be sufficient. It's really all personal preference but cassettes don't have that high of a quality so a high bitrate would be a waste of space. What you could do is record to WAV and convert to different rates and pick what you like.
