Open in specific (default) library?
« on: December 18, 2007, 07:56:38 pm »

Hi everyone,

Is there a simple way to get MC to automatically open into its default library every time?

I have a couple of odd 'scratch' libraries that I use occasionally, in removable locations etc, but I'd prefer it if MC just opened into my main music library each time it starts, regardless of which I used last.

I'm not much of an expert on using command line 'switches' or anything (in fact, I have no idea what they are, I'm just aware of their existence and the fact that it is probably going to be the first solution somebody suggests), so if there's a setting I could change or a simple edit I could make to the shortcut that would probably be best ;o)

You should be able to do that in Tools/Options/Startup.

Hi Jim, thanks, but I can't see where I can specify the actual library? I can specify a location WITHIN the library, but it always seems to open the library that was last used.

Am I missing something obvious  ?

make a shortcut to
mc12.exe /Library LibName
where libname should be the name of the library you want mc to startup with.

Hi gappie, thanks but I'm obviously doing something wrong, I can't get it to work at all.

I have tried creating a new shortcut on my desktop using only the text you suggest:

mc12.exe /Library main

after closing Windows 'fixes' the link to:

%windir%\system32\mc12.exe /Library main

It opens MC fine but always in the last library, not 'main'.

I've also tried editing the original MC shortcut in the launch toolbar, with and without the quotes, and with and without the full path, and nothing I do seems to work.

Could the problem be that I have the libraries stored in a custom location on my D drive?

Because it is a command line switch, errors finding the library are not shown. Turn on logging and take a look for clues there. Or just double check your library name...

Thanks guys, looks like it just needed a reboot to do the trick.

All good!
