DVD Syncing

For simplicity's sake:

Have lots of DVDs in Media Center.  What exactly is Media Center capable of as far as syncing portions of video from these DVDs to handheld video players (mainly the iPod Nano 3G)?  Syncing worked to a minor extent.  What should work?  What doesn't work?  Can I request enhancing this a bit?  What might I be doing wrong?  It seems like what I want may already be in MC.

Under the options for the device, take a look at Video conversion.  There are three settings.  It might work.
