Can I make tagging mode show more tags?
« on: January 27, 2008, 07:09:20 am »

I've started tagging my photos with date, events, genre, people, and places tags. So far this is going well, but I've found one annoyance that I'm hoping to work around. Any tips would be welcome.

The way I'm working now, since I have quite a few old photos to tag, is to work through the backlog one date period (day, month, etc) at a time. So, in tagging mode I filter down to a date period that hasn't been tagged yet. The problem is that as soon as I do this the list of existing tags I've used in previous date periods are no longer listed (actually, sometimes they are, but usually not, I don't know why). I know that I can still choose an existing tag via the "New <tag type>" option, but it would be much more conventient if the existing tags were listed so I could just check the relevant ones.

So, is there any way I can make all of the tags I've used so far show in the list?

That's a good point actually. Does the pane selection logic need to be the same when you turn on tagging mode?
As I understand it, currently, when you select an item in a pane, the other panes get refreshed to show only the items that belong to the afore-mentioned selection.

One idea could be that when you turn on tagging mode, the user would have to manually press the refresh button each time they want to update the panes.

Or just have an option in the pane to "only show used tags" or "show all tags".

maybe this is something you could do:
rightclick on the most right pane and choose add pane to the right. in the form that comes up choose for Type (the first line) expression. give it a name, like backlog, and place in expression: FormatDate([Date,0],yyyy-MM-dd) and let it sort assending or desending (just what you like). now go to edit view scheme and turn of 'filter in both directions' (or turn it on, to see what the difference is).
just choose the date you left of the last time, and all the tags will stay in the panes.

you could , ofcource make it more hip by ading a user library field called Ready (under options>library and folders>user library fields), put a column before the backlog collumn with this field in it. when ready the first time add the item yes or whatever to that list. next time when a date or image is done click also "yes".
when you want to start taging again, choose unassigned in the ready column and the next date will be on top of the list.

well that is more or less how i do it. and it works for me.

gab
this will

Yes please. A Huge vote on this for me!
On a pane by pane basis.
