media editor has encountered a problem and needs to be closed
« on: August 03, 2002, 11:52:03 pm »

Hello, When opening the media editor it opens fine and it loads/decodes the mp3 file fine but when I modify the mp3 file and try to save it under save as and replacing the existing mp3 file, it gives me an error saying that media edit has encountered a problem and needs to be closed, and it gives me a choice in the bottom to send it or not to microsoft which I did.
Im operating under windows XP and would like to find an answer since I am upgrading from Purchased version 7.0 because upgrading to version 8 I thought it was going to solve the problem. Please help as I have the licence backed up as media jukebox told me to do when upgrading to a new version
thanks
Carlos

Make sure Media Jukebox is closed.  The file could be open there also.

Thanks but that did not solve the problem.
Any other suggestions or tweaks?

that will do nothing for you, you can turn off that message in Windows XP.

Control pannel
System Icon
Advanced Tab
Look At The Bottom for a button "Error Reporting"
in there you can turn it off.

at the top "performance" you can turn off all that XP garbage and make your system run faster.

Just wanted to say that the editor is quite good. I was somewhat surprised to find out, that the editor is _useful_; I didn't expect that (because I tried _many_ bundled editors and things and they were almost always crap).

Just a few minutes ago I worked on a wave that somehow slipped through the encoding process. My first idea was to only convert that file. But then I saw some of the filters and began playing. Now I have to rip the file again

Hello again. I turned off error reporting in xp like you suggested, and nothing. What media editor does now is it shuts itself off without saving the modified mp3 file. I closed Media Jukebox to not let the same MP3 file being in use while modifying it in media editor but no success either.
Any other suggestion?

ANY OTHER TECHNICAL SUGGESTION TO THIS MEDIA EDITOR FLAW? IN WHICH I CANNOT MODIFY MP3'S BECAUSE MEDIA EDITOR CANNOT SAVE THE FILE AND IT SHUTS ITSELF DOWN?

Please take the CAPS LOCK off.  It's considered shouting.

The problem may be with the file itself.  Is it Read Only?  Is it located on media that can't be written (a CD)?.

Do you have enough disk space?  Do you have an MP3 encoder?  Is it licensed?

The least likely thing is a problem with Media Editor.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. The file(s) that I am trying to modify are not read only as I have checked, they are in my music folder in my 36 gigabite hard drive. I think I do have an MP3 encoder as I was doing what I am trying to do fine back when I used to have windows2000 but when I upgraded to Winxp the problem started to happen.
It is also licensed because I purchased it back when version 7.0 came out.

Download the mp3 encoder for 8.0

Try converting any wav file to mp3 with MJ.  You may be missing the encoder for 8.0.

I did not say it would fix your problem it will only disable the MS reporting.
