Bug in CD registration
« on: August 03, 2002, 01:18:22 pm »

I've recently started using MJ 8.0.336 an can't access CDDB info.  When a new CCD is inserted, the registration wizard runs until the second screen when the Next button is greyed out.  Similarly, in settings, the CDDB button has no effect.  I'm running W2K Pro on a 800 Mzh Dell laptop.
Help !

Strange.  Are there two CD's in two drives?  If so, try one.

Try an uninstall of MJ, reboot, make sure no other unnecessary software is running, and reinstall.

I'm having exactly the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop. At least I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

The registration process works fine on my desktop Pentium 3 machine.

Hi Mary,
Are you connected to the Internet when you try?

What ISP do you use?

Yes, definitely connected 24/7 through Pacbell DSL. No internet connection problems.

I posted an update on AVS Forum thread, forgot to post here. Sorry!

I finally got it to work by noting the steps that had to be taken while going through the CDDB registration on my desktop machine, then using those same steps, although working blind, on the laptop.

If you and the other CD software developers are paying a licensing fee to those Gracenote people, you might want to get them to look into this problem. Otherwise, none of you are getting your money's worth! I did a search on this forum for CDDB, and found all kinds of problems. It can't help your software sales when people can't get it to work. Many of them won't understand that it's not in your control.

THanks for your help, anyway! I'm glad I got it to work, and I am planning to register.

I to am having the same problem. I recently ripped 300 of my CD's using MJ 7.2. I'm using Win XP on 533mhz pentium. I had to be connected to the internet though, but CDDB worked every time on 7.2. In MJ 8.0.336 it is just giving me tracks 1 - 11 etc no name no nothing. Against the advice of all my friends I bought MJ 7.2 but I dare not show them version 8.0.336 otherwise they will be calling me stupid for a long time to come. What happened!!!
