iPod Touch problem
« on: April 19, 2008, 04:41:19 pm »

I have an iPod Touch and I never managed to get the cover art working properly.
This is quite strange because on my device the covers are correctly dispayed in cover-flow mode. But when I switch back to the normal album list, most of them are mixed up or totaly black.
Is there someone else with this specific issue?

Yes, it's because of the current method of transferring files to the iPod.  It's just not bug free yet.  The ithumb files (artwork files) are not completely transferred to the iPod if you transfer a large number of files to the device.  It must have a lock out command before it can finish uploading the thumb files (because they get to be several hundred MB in size).  Try clearing the iPod and transferring a small number of files, you'll see that the artwork will then work.

Hopefully this will be solved soon.

I already noticed it works for a small amount of files.
Do you think I can trick it by uploading the songs little by little?

Yep, it looks like uploading less than 100 files at a time is a temporary solution.

I don't know if that will work in the long run because the ithumb file will eventually be too big to transfer completely to the iPod.

Here is the method I used to make it work, but be warned... it's not pretty:

you need to have your iPod jailbroken with SSH installed.
transfer all your files in one sync to the iPod and don't close Media Center.

Login to your iPod with SSH and go to the var\mobile\itunes_control\artwork folder (i think that's the right folder path, I don't have mine on me so it might be a little different).

Go to your media center temp directory, typically: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12\Temp
and copy the ithumb files and the artwork file to the ipod directory.  Make sure to get rid of the tmp extensions.

it should now work.
