MP3-Tagging again
« on: July 28, 2002, 12:05:34 am »

Hi,

Another question with MP3-IDs.
I have ripped a couple of CDs with EAC using it's tagging feature. It write both versions of tags (1.x |PLS| 2.x).

When I import the MP3s to MJ I think MJ imports the 1.x-version of tags, because many titles are cut of. I have been reporting this earlier, but I guess I didn't described it right.
So my suggestion is to _first_ check for 2-version-tags and then for 1-version-tags. I think this would solve the problem with cut titles.

Thanks.

Something I Noticed Yesterday When Someone Sent Me A Question About Everytime He Saved Something In Custom1, MJ Woulkd Not Read It.

So i Saved Something In Custom1, Deleted It From The List And imported It. It Was Not There!

So Then I Went To The MP3 Plugin (Thru The Plug-In Manager) And Turned Back On By Unchecking >>>-> [_] Ignore ID3v2 tags during analysis.

When MJ Imported It Now Read The Custom1 Field, I Have Not Tested If MJ Gets The Other ID3v2 Tags Or If It Is Just Getting The ID3v1 Tags.

I Thought This Option Was Just For Going Into Properties But It Does Not Seem So, A Bug?

Mirko,

I can't reproduce the problem.  Media Jukebox does analize ID3 v2 tags and then v1.

KingSparta,

No, this is a global setting.  If it's on the v2 tags will be ignored.

Well I Now Have It Set To Read Them, But It Would Be Nice To Have A Setting To Read ID3v1 Or Id3v2 On Import That Is Diff From The One You Pull Up In Properties.

Nikolay:

Then maybe something goes wrong using EAC with lame. I knew it. I should have asked about external compression or lame 3.93 custom parameters earlier :-/

Besides. Can I use 2 drives synchron when ripping using MJ? That's the reason why I use EAC. It's a _lot_ faster this way (queueing up 100s of lame-processes *g*).

Mirko:

Here is the settings I use w/ EAC and tagging works fine
(assuming you have filled or let FreeDB fill in info for track names, title, track #, year and genre)

In the compression options window set the following:
>Parameter passing to User Defined Encoder
>file extension to .mp3 OR .ogg
>in Additional command line options place one of the examples shown below
>(in Program, including path....) path to external encoder (in my case it's D:\MediaJukebox\Plugins\lame.exe OR oggenc.exe)
>bit rate to 320 (it is overriden by command line)
>check high quality
>uncheck Add ID3 tag
>uncheck Use CRC check

FOR MP3: (VBR mode - 192/224 kbs average)

--alt-preset standard --id3v2-only --pad-id3v2 --tt "%t" --ta "%a" --tl "%g" --ty %y --tn %n --tg "%m" %s %d

FOR OGG: (quality 8)

%s -q 8 -t "%t" -a "%a" -l "%g" -G "%m" -d %y -N %n

You can save these settings and any variations by creating profiles.
(i.e. for mp3's I have a profile called MP3 HQ VBR and for ogg's it is called OGG Q8)

Thanks Xenno for the settings. If only I knew them _way_ before...
I finished today ripping of my 4316 songs. Wow. I didn't know I have _that_ much music.
Now I startet "replay gaining" 237/4373 after 20min. I guess, this could take _long_. But it's nearly sleeping time anyway.

Yesterday I changed something in the way EAC writes ID3-Tags. I have disabled ID3v1-tagging in the options (not yet the commandline from above). And it seems, that MJ imports now correctly (only ID3v2-tags).

I still guess it's a bug. Maybe it is the following:

If a MP3 has ID3v1.1- and ID3v2.2(?)-tags, then it imports the v1.1. So it seems, anyway.

HTH.
