update library from tags, runtime c++ error, version 13. 091
« on: December 18, 2008, 02:02:50 pm »

been tagging like crazy, and tried updating tags..

i chose update library from tags,, and once it gets to or around 138,000 of 145,182 i get a popup runtime error for C++ and it says to contact jriver support team.. i checked logging but dont see anything in regards to tagging.. what's going on?

i have tried updating twice now, once last night, and once today and i get the same error, i cant see exactly where the error happens cause im not going to sit in front of my computer for hours staring at the box scanning... but i know it is after 138,000 and some.

any ideas? will the logging help you determine the issue?

You could try emailing it.

You could also search the previous log backwards for "crashing" and then send a few thousand lines on either side of that.

It is a really huge log file if the zipped file is 21 MB. Zip can compress log files surprisingly well. (Winrar or 7-zip might be able to compress logs even a bit more.)

xtacbyme,

Did you by any chance have the LastFM plugin enabled? It creates a huge amount of log entries.

The log doesn't show a crash.

Any chance you could work in smaller batches to see if there's a problem with a single file, or if you're simply running out of memory or something due to the huge batch size?

Thanks.

ok I AM BAFFLED!!!

last night when i went to bed 1:30am GF quit tagging when i did, she was on my laptop connected to server WIRELESSLY and i was of course on server, i selected all audio files on the server and chose update library from tags, then i went to the laptop she was on chose all audio files FROM SAME Library and chose update library from tags. when i woke up this morning i had a runtime error on main server but the laptop was still updating, then i retried the server again and got another error around the 138,000 mark as i described in my earlier post.. tonight at 5:15 i rechecked laptop and it updated the whole library with new tags (the same library the server was updating) and it did it wirelessly... took 5 times as long but it did it flawlessly. when i looked at the dialog it said updating complete 784 errors hit ok. so i hit ok but it didnt tell me the errors? which i thought it would?!

Now what really baffles me is why would the laptop update the same library which is in the server and do it wirelessly with no problems? my specs on laptop are literally 1\4 those specs of custom machine. and main machine being the drive in built into it shouldnt have had any issues if the lappy didn't... correct?

Matt\Others you still suggest i take small bites at this? or are there any other suggestions i should try before going about the small bites?
