Album Artist Tag
« on: February 24, 2009, 09:58:36 am »

I came accross some problems with the way, JRiver MC handles this tag. JRiver is asking for a blank inbetween Album and Aritst, ie "Album Artist". However, a audio file tagged this way, does not get the Albumartist picked up properly in other software, for example Twonky Media. This is looking for "Albumartist" in one word, ie without a space inbetween.

As I would still like to use JRiver MC13 for all my tagging work, this is a bit of a nusance, as I have to use other software to "correct" the Albumartist tag.

Any way around this resp. fixing this issue?

Many thanks

What format are you using?  Tagging specs vary by format.

This was an issue for me too in SqueezeCenter (formerly known as SlimServer), for which I generated a SqueezeCenter patch to map "Album Artist" -> "AlbumArtist".  The fix is now included in recent 7.3.x releases.  Quite some time ago, I did similar for "DISC #" -> "DISC".  Other mappings of interest to SqueezeCenter are: "REPLAY GAIN" -> "REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN" and "PEAK LEVEL" -> "REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_PEAK".

Not sure such a "Map" is possible in Twonky - or how to realise it.

In any case, it would be great if MC13 maps the tags correctly in the first place  :D

Matt / Jim, any chance of adressing this soon? doesnt seem to be just my problem only.....

It's not clear that it is an MC problem.  MrC says above that it was fixed, for example, in SqueezeCenter 7.3.x releases.

I think Album Artist (with a space character) is correct for FLAC files. For instance, foobar 2000 and Winamp use it.

However, as a workaround, you could create an "Albumartist" user field and copy the field values.
