Jukebox doesn't play MP3 under 128 kb??
« on: March 18, 2009, 05:44:49 pm »

Hello,
I discovered something strange today: Media Jukebox doesn't play any file that has a bitrate under 128 kb.
I've got a rather large collection of music (almost 80.000 files) and I play them mostly random. I don't stick before the screen of my computer, so it's possible that I didn't motice this at first, but today I heard a long slilence where music should be playing. The lightbar in the player was scrolling to the right. I saw the equalizer activity but the music wasn't playing.
After some tests and trials I had to conclude that all my music is playing fine (FLAC, APE, MP3 above 128 kb) but the files that are 96 kb don't make any noise ;-))
What could be the problem?
Btw, when I try to play them in another mediaplayer, they play fine.

There shouldn't be any limitations like this.

Could you send a sample file to matt at jriver dot com?

Thanks.

Thanks for the file.  It's playing alright here.

But it is a mono (not stereo) file, so perhaps your soundcard doesn't handle / route that nicely?  You could try converting to stereo using DSP Studio.

You might also try switching between Waveout and Directsound in Options > Playback.

Hi Matt,

great news! Changing the DSP Studio settings did the trick.
Many thanks for having helped me out.
