Media Center 14.0.90 -- Available Here
« on: October 27, 2009, 10:05:49 am »

This is a stable version of MC 14.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/MediaCenter140090.exe

14.0.90 (10/26/2009)

1. Fixed: WAVE/AIFF plugin did not show ID3v2 tags in tag format dump.
2. Changed: Changed WAV/AIFF input plugin option "Do not write tags to WAV/AIFF files" to "Write tags to WAVE/AIFF files" with default set to false.
3. Fixed: Media Center 14 Service could generate a shutdown error when closing the program on Windows 7.
4. Fixed: A few features were not available (only applies to build 89).
5. Internal: Revised how redirects are handled when loading Internet resources, so that form post data is preserved across the redirect.
6. Fixed: A few store fields could show as user fields in the 'Manage Library Fields' dialog.
7. Fixed: Ripping with concurrent ripping disabled could output big endian WAV files instead of little endian files.
8. Changed: It's possible to sort a Category in pane view by 'Number of Files'.
9. Fixed: Sorting specified on a per-category basis for a view was not being honored when viewing thumbnails.
10. Fixed: Wavpack files could have import / playback issues.
11. Fixed: Random sorting did not work properly in the panes or Theater View.

14.0.89 (10/22/2009)

1. NEW: Added experimental notes feature ( more information here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=54542.0 ).

14.0.88 (10/22/2009)

1. Fixed: Possible view crash in build 87.
2. Fixed: When importing a video with sidecar some fields in the sidecar were ignored if values of the same fields are found embedded in the video file.  The possible fields are Name, Album, Artist, Genre, Rating, and Copyright.  Please report to us if you have problem with other fields.

14.0.87 (10/21/2009)

1. Fixed: MC did not write tags to AIFF files correctly in some instances.
2. Changed: MC will reclaim space saved by change in tags in WAVE/AIFF files if the saved space is 256KB or larger.
3. Changed: When writing tags MC will be more tolerant of incorrectly written AIFF files created by other applications.
4. Fixed: The Theater View theme online media slideshow feature was not available.
5. Fixed: The television program list in Standard View did not draw its border.
6. Optimized: Improved performance of television guide parsing.
7. Fixed: View state settings like columns could be lost between runs (only applies to last few builds).
8. Fixed: MC could not remove tags in WAVE/AIFF files.
9. Fixed: MC could not read lyrics written in an ID3v2 user frame.
10. NEW: Added a configuration dialog for the WAVE/AIFF input plugin to turn writing to files on or off (the default is off).
11. Fixed: MC could not retrieve an embedded image from an ID3v2 tag in WAVE/AIFF files.
12. Optimized: Improvements to Theater View performance. (for example, entering a ~500,000 album view: build 86: gave up after an hour; build 87: 12 seconds)

14.0.86 (10/19/2009)

1. Fixed: MC could not read ID3v2 tags Tag&Rename (WAVE).
2. Fixed: MC could not read ID3v2 tags in AIFF files.

Please try a reinstall of build 90.  This was happening on a Windows 7 machine here, and no longer happens using build 90.

Thanks.

Please try a reinstall of build 90.  This was happening on a Windows 7 machine here, and no longer happens using build 90.

Installed build 90 again, and (as before) rebooted prior to using Media Center. Unfortunately, I am still getting the same two errors in the event log as above.

Let me know if there's any other info I could provide that would be helpful.

Is it as simple as starting the program, waiting a few seconds, and then closing?  Does the error pop a message box, or is it only in Event Viewer?

Thanks.

Yeah, just opening and closing the program will cause the issue.

No, I don't get any error messages, and there are no functionality issues; it is only the "clutter" in the event log. Not the biggest of problems  :)

Seems like MC is not able to write back Last played and Number of plays to the library server. Library consist of only .ape-files if hat matters. Has been like this since build 79 at least.

This has been reported by a few people, and we've never been able to reproduce it.

You could look at the links.xml file in your library folder.  It should get updated as soon as you press 'Ok'.

Please start a new thread if you have any more details.  We'd love to get this one figured out.

Thanks.

Ok, found out that if I add a new link by hand to the links.xml and then start MC the new link will appear. Also after that I can create and delete new Links using MC's UI. Maybe there is some additional character which confuses your parser and situation was cleared somehow when I made a new link by hand. Sorry, can't reproduce this anymore :)

1. Add to playlist via the Title of playing song (in Standard View) causes MC to minimize to task bar.

2. Using Panes at Left and Details at right: auto-size columns kicks in every time you select a field on left Panes. Auto-size is system wide but shouldn't it kick in once when a View is loaded or re-loaded so we can then tweak it (without having to load a saved view every time?).

3. Manually building thumbs scrolling the a scheme with 5 Tiles across eventually crashed MC by locking currently playing audio (progress bar locked) and MC became unresponsive then crashed. Playback was at about 1:35 out of a 3 minute song:

4. Is it normal to have Log.txt and Previous Log.txt coming in at 450mb and 1.4gb respectively? I think I have all choices enabled, so I just unchecked a few I don't use. My 450mb log was from 8:30 AM today until about 11:25pm.

Media Center 14.0.90 crashes opening All Names view
« Reply #17 on: October 28, 2009, 11:52:01 pm »

Crashing every time...

I have a view named Name, a view of all of my tracks sorted by Name (song title). I've had this view forever. It is grouped on Name with subgroups breaking it into A-Z (actually 37 subgroups because some start with numerals). There are almost 64 thousand records in this view.

I can open a subgroup such as "A" or "M" or whatever without a problem.

But in 14.0.90 when I try to open the All Names branch (which would list every track), every time, MC crashes. When I restart MC and repeat the action, it crashes again.

I don't think it is because the view is so large, because I can open another view of the same size, Keywords (which has 93 subgroups), then click All Keywords, and MC does NOT crash. Both views have exactly the same layout.

Could there be a "bad" Name value somewhere, and MC encounters it when opening All Names but I haven't tripped over it (yet) when opening individual A-Z subgroups? It would likely be a problem that is unique to grouping on Name, since all my other views also show Name and many sort on it.

Here's the Previous Log with an instance of the crash:

Had something happen today that, while not what I'd call a bug, probably needs a little work around...

I had MC open on my PC, hooked up to a remote PC - the zone on the local PC was "There: Music"

I double clicked a local file on my PC, which is associated with MC.

The file kinda attempted being played on the "There: Music"... But of course it couldn't as the remote PC couldn't access it - so it started playing some random track (that was the bizarre bit!).

Is there a way to make MC play local files locally if double clicked (i.e. change the zone to a "Here" zone)??

A slightly off-topic question:

Is there is history somewhere of all of the version release notes? (like the list at the top of this thread - but going back to version 14.0.0)

I sometimes miss a few releases - and like to check out new features, but I don't know where to look if I can't see the descriptions!

I just had a crashing bout with my Media Center also. It wouldn't stay open more than a minute before shutting down. But not only that, it caused my Windows XP Media Ed. to also not shut down properly so when I tried to reboot my system, all I got was a blue screen telling me that Windows was shutting down my system so to prevent damage to my computer. I couldn't even get on using Safe Mode. It took me 5 days and $59 charge from Microsoft to fix my corrupt system.

Therefore I will not be partaking in anymore of these "stable" upgrades. I'm not computer savy enough to have my computer used as a test bed, I'll be leaving that stuff to the more experienced.

Cheers,
Robin

This new feature allows full bidirectional library changes when using Library Server.

But this was a nice feature the way it was! I do do see the benefit of being able to update changes from the client to server, by all means. But I just want to be able to automatically update play-stats the way it was in v13. It will be to easy to forget to do this manually every time I quit MC.

Isn't it possible to re-introduce this? Or is there a way to get this functionality more automatic?

In MC14 I welcomed the new DSP Studio possibility of using a XO plugin like Allocator (http://www.thuneau.com/allocator.htm) in my audiophile set-up. It plays very well 2way-in and 4 way-out.

However, there are still a couple of problems.
1) Closing down MC or restarting the computer, Allocator loses its XO slopes most often. This is rather annoying because I have to check the plug-in setup everytime. It never happens if I use Allocator outside MC - it always opens back to its last configuration.

2) My audiophile PC has 1024x768 resolution - it cannot have higher. At this resoution DSP Studio opening window is a touch small, at least for Allocator, and it would need to be slided up and down in order to reach all available plugin features.

Thanks

1)- Whenever I open the Client on my Laptop and connect to my Library Server, all the zones on my Client are set to "Repeat Playing Now". I reset them to "Repeat Off" but next time I open the Client and connect I find them back on "Repeat"
(They are set to 'Repeat Off' on my server.)

Is there a way to lock the Repeat and Shuffle functions to OFF?
I hate them and never want to use them, especially involuntarily.

2)-
This is a change from v13.  You need to do a "Library Sync" command from the client to submit your changes.

This new feature allows full bidirectional library changes when using Library Server.

Which 'Library Sync" command do you speak of? found it . . . File ->> Library ->> Sync

3)- When I use "PLAYER: Stop After Current File" from my Client (with playback done at the server) MC continues to play regardless.

USB DAC - No sound
« Reply #25 on: October 29, 2009, 08:25:18 pm »

I use a USB DAC for audio playback. It used to work very well but now the sound is directed to my laptop speakers.

My palyback options are:

Output mode : WASAPI (with Vista 32);
Output mode settings: Device "Speakers (2-Music Streamer +)", my usb DAC;
Open device for exclusive acces checked;
Buffering 2.53 seconds;
DSP Studio - output format : 2 channels - stereo; 16 bits, 48000 hz (correct for my device).

I've tried default device, Direct sound, restarting the computer, etc...

The USB DAC is active in the control panel and works. It plays fine with another software (Foobar).

I have not tried to uninstall and reinstall. I have upgraded to MC14.009 but the problem remains.

Can somebody help me?

Thanks in advance!

USB DAC continued
« Reply #27 on: October 29, 2009, 09:22:03 pm »

I have found a workaround.

Actually I discovered that the sound did get to my DAC when playing WAV and FLAC files. The problem happens only with m4a (Apple losseless) files. I fixed it by setting my USB DAC device as default in Windows.

The only drawback That I can see is that now, whenever my DAC is plugged in. whether MC14 is running or not, Windows sound are channeled to my DAC as well.

The ideal would be to have audio from MC sent to my DAC and Windows sound to the laptop speakers, but I can live with this shortcoming.

If anybody has a better solution I like to hear and try it.

Thanks!

Counter expression used with the Copy function goes crazy if the cursor is moved to where the files are listed (Preview section).

I'm trying to copy a sequence of files used in a Playlist and I used the Filename Rule: Counter(1)-[Name]

This does the job, but if I move the cursor into the Preview section, the Counter would start incrementing on its own, and changing the new filename.

One issue when controlling MC 14 from another computer (through library server), is that the DRM acquisition error message doesn't show on the client computer and only shows on the server.

Re: Media Center 14.0.90 crashes opening All Names view
« Reply #32 on: November 03, 2009, 02:49:38 pm »

This will be fixed in a coming build.  It's using large-block allocation for each item in the tree (and shouldn't be) so it's running out of memory when putting lots and lots of items in the tree.
