Problem with sync of external drive as handheld [solved]
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:42:18 pm »

I have been using MC to create an mp3 copy of all my flac files on an external hard drive for use as a portable copy of my lossless library. It is set to use a smartlist (which shows only flac files) to sync to, and also set to delete any files on the 'handheld' that are not in the smartlist.

All has gone well until now.  :(

Unfortunately having done a clean reinstall of Windows and MC14, even though using the same library, same drive leters, same 'handheld' settings, etc, MC wants to over-write ALL of the mp3 files. This takes weeks to do on a slow external drive!

I am puzzled since none of the files on the 'handheld' have been changed, and the entire flac library certainly has not been retagged.

How do I resolve this?
How do I prevent this from happenning again?

I too have been asking essentially the same thing.  Thus far, there seems to be no solution.  The software that implements the sync process is incomplete and problematic.  I gave it one last shot recently, but won't use it again until there is a robust, trustworthy solution.

I believe I found my problem, user error.

Someone compulsively deleted the 'Playlist' folders and their m3u files :-[ and it looks like that made the difference. Restoring those made it act as expected.

In the future I will resist the urge to tidy up so much  :D
