Error restoring MC License: Failed extracting license from file
« on: October 15, 2009, 11:24:57 am »

Morning!

So my v14 trial ended and I decided to move forward with the purchase. This morning I started MC and got the dialog with Purchase, Restore and Cancel on it. Clicked Purchase and got my upgrade for 24.98. The new license file was sent to my email address successfully. However:

1. MC was not automatically activated when the key was generated via the purchase process.
2. When I retrieved my email with the license key - I saved the .mjr file to my local drive
3. Back on the "Your trial is over dialog" I clicked Restore->Restore License from file (.mjr)
4. When I select this file (see step 2) - I get the message:

"Error restoring MC License: Failed extracting license from file"

What's the deal? Now what?

I look forward to an update.

Cheers!

If you're on Vista, try turning off UAC.

I am not. Good ole XP here running IE 7

From what I can tell - it looks like the mjr file that I have is corrupt in some way. Do I need to burn a "restore" just to get another copy of the file?

You could try another restore.

Also check your system date.  The mjr file is good for 14 days.  If your system date is wrong, it could fail.

You could try another restore.

Is there any assurance that I can get to have this reset if it doesn't work? I mean - I know we are limited in how many restores we can get - but I just purchased this morning and I don't want to burn up a few restores when this file should work straight away....

System time and date are correct.

Jim,

I did a restore and did receive a proper and "complete" file. I examined the new file in my editor and it contains just as much "text" as my v13 key and does have the --end license stanza-- correctly placed at the end.

Looks like some kind of corruption occurred on that first attempt. And I guess I have 9 restores left now?

Cheers!
