You will find the Sony ATRAC3 codec at this site. When you enter this address in to your browser window you will get a download notice. let it rip.
Thanks and Thanks.
I think you will like the sound of the little baby.

Well, I installed the codec, but I can't find any files encoded in ATRAC3. I spent 30 minutes trying to find one but did not find any.

What is the extension for the files.

The file you are looking for is in the windows system folder. It is ATRAC3.acm.
The sony file you downloaded is the install file and when you run it "installs" ATRAC3.acm and makes any adjustments to the register etc. It performs a complete install there is nothing else to do.

You can use audiograbber to encode a audio file into the ATRAC3 format. you have to go into audiograber and select the ATRAC format. After you install the codec you will have to reinstall audiograbber this allows audiograbber to "see" the ATRAC3.acm file and display the codec as an option.   You can play the file back using media player, winamp or just about any third party media player that will play back wma and wav files. You will find the the ATRAC encoder creates a file with a .WAV extesnion yet it is 1/10 the size of the orginal wav file.
again thanks

The same here, I don't see ATRAC in the list of available encoders.

Can you send me a small file encoded using ATRAC?

my email: nikolay @ jriver.com

Thanks in advance,
Nikolay

This location has the install program in the readme file.
unzip into a seperate directory and then right click the readme file and select install. This is the complete install the sony down load does not do the install. I made a mistake on the files. Sorry.

ID3 tags only work in an MP3 file. You can still create playlists based on the the information you ask audiograbber to create as to artist, album, location etc.

I tried both downloads and used Cleansweep to track what they do while installing.  They both install an atrac.acm, but the one from Sony is a decoder only.  The one from www.minidisc.org decodes AND encodes but is not an official file from Sony.  You can use it to encode with Goldwave and with sndrec32.exe from Windows.  My Audiograbber does not recognize the atrac.acm.  There's lots of good information there at http://www.minidisc.org/mdlpfaq.html#_q72

I'd like to correct that statement I made about Audiograbber. My copy on Windows 98SE does not see it; my copy on Windows 2000 Pro does. Both are using Audiograbber v1.80.03.
