Auto Refresh
« on: June 10, 2010, 04:51:12 pm »

Hi there,
I have a tv series that is recorded in 23.976 and plays really jittery.
The content is avi the codec is xvid mpeg4
I have read somewhere that you can set up the system to automatically change its refresh rate how do I do this? or is there another way to fix this annoying problem.
Please tell me if you need any files and if so which ones.
Thank you for any help it is much appreciated.

While the video is playing, right-click, and choose "Change Display Settings".  The choices are listed in the form of HeightxWidthxBitsxRefreshRate.  The next time the file is played, the same setting will be automatically applied.

How ofter does it jump, every sec, 3 sec etc?

If you have your display refresh rate at 23.976/24hz and it is still jumping every second (or few seconds) then it is more likely that the AVI was poorly made and unless you want to remux the who thing you may be stuck (reclock will help keep stuff in sync and worth a try - as it is a Renderer it will not stuff up your other filters and you can always uninstall it).  Also try playing the file back at 50 and 60hz to see if any is better or worse than 24hz.

You can only set what your Monitor/TV supports.  Does your Monitor/TV support 24hz (or a multiple of this)?  If it does not then you "best" option will be 60hz but you will get telecline judder.

It support 50/60  I did find 25 in the display but it only made a slight difference.
I might try and recode it to 25fps

Don't bother trying to re-encode, you will still get the judder.  If your monitor onsly support 50/60hz, you have two options
1) Set monitor at 60hz and live with the telecline judder
2) Set monitor to 50hz and get reclock to speed the playback from 23.976/24fps to 25fps.  Your playback will be 5% quicker, and you may notice a pitch change in the Audio (you can also enable a pitch correction but some people don't like the impact that this has on the sound in general)

re encoded to avi h264 25fps no more jitter

Good for you - Out of interst is the new jitter free file shorter than the original file (eg what are the lengths of the two)?
