Gradual Deterioration of Sound Playback
« on: June 21, 2002, 11:37:11 am »

I have a Dell Optiplex GX240 running Win98 (not my choice) w/CD-R Drive

When playing in Digital format, the sound is fine for a while but as the MJ8 player runs there are more and more
"stops" (are these pops...they aren't skips I don't think, since I'm not missing any music).  It goes away if I use
Analog format but then the MJ8 player will only play one song at a time (needs manual imput).

Ideas?   Do I need to reboot on a regular basis to clear out whatever cache the computer is using?

THANKS!

When I use digital CD playback I must restart MJ after 25 minutes of playing. Otherwise there are pops.
Analog playback works fine, but the sound quality is worse.

Thanks.  Which drive?  Is the machine a Dell?

The problem is probably in a driver.

I use generic Win98 driver. I think that the problem is not in driver, because Winamp can play CD without any error.
I tried to add Winamp plugin in MJ, but it doesn't work. MJ uses different locations and Winamp plugin just displays message that the file is not on CD-ROM drive.

How about change the output from wav to "direct sound"?

I've tried both wav output and DirectSound.
