How do you handle sub-genre?
« on: August 14, 2010, 06:03:40 pm »

I want to be able to use sub genres but do not know how to set them up.  Can you guys tell me how you handle them?

It depends partially on how you'd like to handle them.

If you just want a normal field to put a single sub-genre into just pick a field. I use a hierarchy of Grouping > Genre > Style to handle this.

If you want a list of sub-genres in a single field, then creating a custom field is probably the way to go. Tools > Options > Library & Folders > Manage Library Fields > Add New Field.  Name it as you like, under Data Type choose List (semi-colon delimited).

Another option that I think some people use is "nested keywords", which work well in panes but not elsewhere (for genres, IMO). I believe these only work for list type fields also. A forum search will give you more info on using these, if you're interested.
