No Multi-channel audio after installing Win7 SP1
« on: February 23, 2011, 11:02:47 am »

I just installed Win7 Service Pack 1 (via windows update), and now get no Dolby or DTS audio from my MKVs, TS, DVD rips, etc.  I reinstalled CCCP, but no joy.  Same problem with MC15 and MC16.  I'm about ready to roll back to a previous backup image, but I wondered if anybody experienced the same.  Please advise if you have.  thanks.

Win7 64
Audio is SPDIF Coax to Sony Receiver
Audio out from MC is WASAPI

I just ran the audio test for SPDIF from Windows and got no sound for Dolby or DTS, so this is not an MC problem, but I'd still be interested if anyone experienced this with the SP1 update.

Do Windows sounds work?

Maybe the default sound device isn't set.

Yes, Windows sounds work... and my music tracks will play.  It seems my SPDIF output in general got messed up somehow, because when I run the sampling tests from Windows control panel, I get no sound for either Dolby or DTS.  I'm installing my backup image now to confirm.  If I get multichannel back, then I'll reinstall Sp1 to confirm that's where the problem is.

Sounds like a sound device driver problem to me.

I installed SP1 on my server at home last night, but haven't done the HTPC yet (which is the one that has HDMI audio output), so I can't confirm anything really.

I rolled back to an image from yesterday and the HD audio is back.  I'll see if I can research something in SP1 that may have changed the audio device driver.  I've been installing most all the windows updates without problem, until this SP1.
