loads of issues with sansa fuze
« on: February 18, 2011, 09:52:53 am »

hello there everyone!

I am having a few issues with media jukebox.

the first thing I'd like to report is that it takes an extremely long time to load the sansa fuze. it takes on average 5-7 minutes to list what's on it.

the second issue is that it crashes often while syncing files to it.

the third issue is that it takes forever to deleted files off it. for a 4 minute song it took 10 minutes to delete it off my fuze

the fourth issue is that it incorrectly reports the free space on my fuze after I use MJ to delete the file I don't want and won't let me transfer songs (over capacity) till I exit MJ, delete one file (any size) with windows explorer, then go back into MJ and the space is freed.

has anyone reported any issues like this with other media player or phones?

It's really annoying when that happens. On my netbook at home (win 7 starter), I have to keep moving stuff around to different ports to keep it working (these are just general things like usb drives, not being used with MC).

From searching around on the internet, the thing that seems most likely to me to be causing the trouble is the ports switching between usb1 and 2 improperly because of the existing uhci (or ohci depending on the chipset) controller drivers. From what I understand, the ECHI (usb2 controller) can do both USB2 and USB1 but the UHCI/OHCI controller messes it up by getting in the way when used with some devices. On my linux box, to avoid this, I remove the UHCI/OHCI drivers from the kernel. It doesn't look like you can do this in windows.

You might try microsoft update to see if there is an optional update to fix your usb issues, I have seen this referred to online when dealing with various chipsets. You might also check the MB manufacturers driver downloads to see if there is an updated driver for your machine.

Is it showing up as a mass storage device?

Ok I have a 4GB SD card in it and it has 8GB of internal memory

the device shows up as a media player in windows (MTP mode) and in wmp is shows up as MTP for both media in the device

in MJ one icon is different then the other sometimes

the external SD card shows up as a white player on the top

the internal memory shows up as a thumbnail of the device.

sometimes they show up the same though.

the internal memory shows as Sansa Fuze 8GB
the external SD card shows up as Sansa Fuze 8GB (1)

I have even taken the SD card out.

I have to have my player in MTP mode for playlists to work. In MSC (Mass Storage Controller) Mode playlists aren't supported for my device.

Have you tried formatting it - both internal and external memory?

I still think it might be the USB ports as Bob suggested.  I have a Sansa and plugged it into one of the two USB ports on the front of my computer.  It behaved just like you said yours was behaving - incredibly slow.  Then I tried it in Windows Media Player and it was the same, even explorer bogged down trying to view it.  Then I tried it in the other USB port on my computer and everything worked fine - files transferred in a snap with Media Center and WMP.

I will try a rear port and let you know I can't reformat becuase I have playlists that arent on my computer so I would loose those and it would be hell to rebuild.

Thank you very much for the help though. Mabye the fuze doesn't like front USB???

I think my fuze might be on its way out. sucks. I tried to plug it into the back usb port, (even after a reboot) still took forever to load the files. its ether the cable or my fuze. I can call to find out if I still have warranty on it and see about getting a new one if not I'm buying a smart phone and use it :(

wmp was able to do it but it was a tad slow. specially with deleting songs.

but thank you very much for the help ;)
