otherwise known as mpp or mp|PLS| (MPEG Plus), or MusePack.

There is an encoder included with MJ (or on the downloads page).

At high bitrates (200|PLS|) it is considered the best codec. (although I still lean towards Ogg)

For pretty much everything else Ogg wins.

Hello chicoselfs

There was thread a while back on the subject :
http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/interact/NeoBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=inter&Post=9614&BoardIdle=7&SortingBy=0&BoardOrder=Descend&Page=0&UserSession=cmagic.102345204644478

My opinion on the topic is the following :

APE: Reference quality (lossless) but Big files (500 to 1000 kbps)
MPC: Best quality for a lossy codec, reasonnable files (180 to 230 kbps (--xtreme)
OGG: Best for opensourcing (encoder source available), quality in between mp3 and mpc
MP3: Best for portability (Handelds, support on every platform)
WMA: Best for Bill Next Page, just kidding WMA 8.0 at 96kbps is very good for handelds

hope it helps !

APE

What Is The Best Format Other Than APE Is MP3
Answer1: You Can use it In MP3 Players (OGG What Is That?)
Answer2: Common And Widely Used Even More Than WMA
Answer3: Has Good Quality At Higher Kbps (192 And Up For CBR, And VBR High)
Answer4: Saves Hard Drive Space Over Other Formats (Ape, Wav)
Answer5: MP3Pro Is Compatable in All Mp3 Players

For me it has to be APE - Why?

coz when they bring a new format out you won't have to re-rip all your CDs/Vinyl
you can just batch uncompress without loss (or so they say and so it appears)
and convert to this wonderfull quality super small format that is as yet a mere twinkle in a clever person's eye

IMHO of course
