when going to Media Server - Connect you get the dialog box
Connect to Media Server
Enter Server Name or IP address
describe server name for <--retard(me)
and also why does a password box pop up when trying a server name
i can get it to work with an ip address but with road runner i think that changes
and also it asks for a "domain" (no clue)

1.  Some types of files can't be streamed.

2.  Use your IP address.  Turn off authentication in Media Server.  Use the connect to last option, if the IP hasn't changed.

No.  If you know your hostname, it might work.  Your ISP might help you find it.

If you have a static IP address on the internet you can do "nslookup MY.IP.NUM.HERE" and get the official host name (often something like my.ip.num.here.some.isp.com).

Since you have a static IP you can enter the hostname into the server hostname box when trying to connect, you can also just use the IP address.

Finally if you always use the same client machine, and the MJ server has a static IP address you can edit your hosts file (probably C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) and add a line like this:

my.ip.num.here  IWantToCallMyMJHostSomethingOriginalLikeThis

My entire hosts file looks like this (note: I am not a fan of advertisements and I prefer google to MSN and I hate the fact that everytime I typo in the address bar MSN finds out what I typed!)
