Problem with release 289 of MJ8
« on: May 30, 2002, 11:41:58 am »

I am getting the following when I install the latest release over a current 28x release.

This is on my laptop.  My desk top worked fine, but the two where at different levels prior to the upgrade.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module at 0000:760e1470.

Try a reboot, reinstall.  Make sure you install the full version (9MB).

Sentryl,

Is it during installation?
Does Media Jukebox run at all?
What do you do when this happened?

Yes, the first time after I load 289 I am fine.   I reboot and load MJ and I get the following:
MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module at 0000:760e1470.

I can continue to run MJ (It appears) but the message stays in the middle of the screen and I must click close at whichtime it closes MJ.  Never had the problem prior to 289, but I did not load every release.

I did everything Jim asked me to do.  Rebooted, and upgraded via the interact message for 289, then shut down and rebooted, then brought up MJ all is well, close MJ and reopen and the error is there.

Did you install the full version?

If so, try deleting the entire Media Jukebox directory in Program Files AFTER you backup your library to ANOTHER directory.  Then reinstall.

Maybe found a problem in "Fill Properties from file Names"

Working on APE files.

1. First attmept - MJ crashed and so too OS with it.
2. Second attempt - No Crash, but there was a message that "it failed"
3. Third attempt - no message no change in ID3 Tags.

In case 2 & 3, ID3 appear changed in MJ,
but when I check with WinAmp or MAC, they are not.

...found an answer to the above...

I had MJ open for a long time and had changed the dir name,
where the files in question were residing.  Since MJ could not
find the files, it crashed the system the first time.  Mabye a more
gentle response should be in order.

This caused the strange behavior described above.

Sorry about the alarm.

Jim -

I did a clean boot of the computer
deleted the MediaJukebox directory under Jrivers under program files
installed from the file Mediajukebox8.exe size 9297kb
Same problem.  MJ loads fine. and opens and all is well.  I close then reopen and get the illegal operation.....but MJ works behind the error message.  When I close the error message box, MJ closes....  What do I do.

I can install PCanywhere if you want to review??? I am running DSL and win98

Sentryl,
No idea.  Sorry.  If it were my machine, I would be deleting registry variables next.

Durgame,

An application cannot crash a modern OS.  It is the failure of the OS to handle the error.  It can also be a hardware problem.  In your case, sounds like the OS.

OK Guys

I backed up to release 265 (the last full release I had) and guess what..... all works fine (no errors).  What I did was delete the MJ directory and started fresh.

I will next upgrade to 280 which is the last upgrade I have and I will let you know.

We're switching gears now.  I'd like to ask you to separate threads now.  Our theory is that there are only "normal" problems left, no bugs.  That's a joke, but we need to separate the problems and see if other people can duplicate them.  Until they can, we will assume it is not a bug.

So if you have a problem, see if anyone else does, then start a thread.  Include your system info from MJ Help by doing a copy/paste.

Thanks.
