Gridlines and Media Jukebox 8...
« on: May 28, 2002, 11:06:03 am »

Hi everyone,

Some people have reported that gridlines make the lists slower in MJ 8, and well, they do.  The Windows list control has bugs with drawing gridlines, so we're forced to repaint the whole list any time it gets scrolled.

So, the options are:

1) remove support for gridlines
2) have fast gridlines that don't paint right
3) have gridlines that paint right but slow the lists down

We opted for #3.  If you want peak performance, don't use grid lines.  Otherwise, hopefully you won't mind a little slower painting...

Take care.

Hi

Instead of gridlines, would it be any easier/better/less buggy providing alternating colour bands, or is that essentially the same thimg?

i.e. alternating colour backgrounds for the text lines (and of course definable colour choices) ?

Matt,

Great idea to eliminate the gridlines in the Media Properties view in the new build.  Scrolling is much improved without the distortion that occured previously and I don't miss them at all in this window.  Nice compromise.
