MP3 Encoder options in MJ8
« on: May 26, 2002, 03:29:39 pm »

Hi, trying to convert mp3 file format with the new MJ8 release I missed the option to set output format to stereo, joint stereo or mono. For mono recordings which are currently in stereo 128k i like to convert to 64k mono in order to save disc space. I have the lame like Mp3 Encoder plug in. Does somebody know were the mono option is? Or has it gone. Which encoder is good for my pupose in MJ8.
Thanks, Rainer

You can control all the Lame options through the custom command line.

Setting->Options select Encoder MPR3 Encoder-> Advanced then select Custom command line from the Quality pulldown

You can then type in the commend line that you like in the textbox at the bottom

-m m is for mono mode

Full documentation of the Lame options is at http://www.mp3dev.org/mp3/USAGE

BEWARE:  Using -m m for mono may not work because the way MJ8 interfaces internally with buffers to the Lame.exe.  I did this months back and MJ produced files twice as long.  I had to go with using the External Encoder with Lame.exe (as I used to do in MJ7) to produce mono MP3 files.  (also, I was re-sampling, but I think the mono option was the problem.)
