Hi,

I installed MC on a new windows 7 64bit pc and then restored a library with settings (both boxes ticked) from another PC running windows 7 64bit.  After MC automatically restarted to apply the changes, it freezes.  Trying to open it regurarly freezes as well.  Uninstalling and reinstalling gets it to open again.  If I just restore the library, with no settings, all is good.

Any suggestions so I can save a few hours of tinkering? :-)

Quick thought, were both versions of MC the same?

Hmm, just thought about that before reading this.  No they are not.  I'll try updating, backing up, then restoring on the new one.

Enable logging, and look for any tell tale signs at the point of hang?

I'm guessing some setting is pointing into outer space, like a UNC path that's no longer valid.

Windows is not good about UNC paths that aren't reachable.  The problem has caused both Jim and me problems with our setups in the last two weeks.

We may try to add a layer in-between Media Center and Windows just to handle missing UNC paths better.

Ok, this issue has nothing to do with restoring library settings, but does relate to some weird combination of settings in the Startup options.

I took a clean install with no previous library loaded, and figured out that if I 1) set Mode to Theater View, 2) uncheck Optimize volume for best sound quality, 3) check the Set volume to, and 4) change the number for Set volume to something other than 80%.

I have played with numerous combinations, and it takes doing all 4 things to make it happen. After setting up logging, the last line that appears before crashing is:

0000187: 2840: Playback: CPlayerZone::CreatePlaybackEngine: Updating volume / mute settings

For now, I'll just make sure that I never set that combination of settings. :-)
