help with pre-1900 dates
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:20:45 pm »

Hello all, I have quite a few pre-1900 recordings, and when I click on the date in my view pane (1891 for example), it displays all tracks with no date, when it should be displaying only tracks from 1891. 1900 and later are fine. I don't remember this happening before... FWIW, my default audio view (panes) is Genre-Date-Artist-Album.

Mostly cylinders and 78s. I get a lot of cylinder transfers from the UCSB Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project (http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/). I have a lot of cds done by Ward Marston (http://marstonrecords.com/) that have old performers on them. I also have a set of Marine Band cds that includes a lot of their cylinders dating from the late 1880s. I also have a copy of the earliest recordings ever made--from 1860! You can get them at http://firstsounds.org/. They were recorded with a phonautograph (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonautograph). I bet the MC developers never imagined having tracks from 1860...

I can reproduce the issue.  We'll get it fixed in a coming build.

Thanks.

Thanks Matt!

Great project.

It's definitely one of the more important things that the universities are doing...
