New MC16 Features and Upgrade Instructions

16.0.164 (8/29/2011)

1. Changed: Added the ability to put a graphic under the option buttons in the player window in a Standard View skin (Playerbar\OptionButtonsBackground).
2. Changed: Added support for more view header skin colors so the header and body can use different color schemes (HeaderTextColor, HeaderHotTextColor, ActiveTabTextColor).
3. NEW: Bad / corrupt files get imported to a special database location so that the files won't get analyzed over and over with each import (smartlist ~d=b shows files).
4. Fixed: Showing the import dialog could crash in rare cases.

5. Changed: Resuming video playback in full screen after the screensaver was shown while pauses wouldn't always close the running screensaver.
6. Fixed: Using an expression in a search (or pane) that included certain special characters could cause the search engine to fail to parse the search.

4. Faster: Optimizations to core database search engine.  Long searches can be 10 or more times faster to execute.
5. Fixed: Panes weren't working properly with dates before 1900.
6. Changed: Audio stream selection for videos will preserve the default selection made by a splitter if the language of the selection matches the user's language selection in Media Center's options.
7. Changed: Minor tweak to how playback checks for file system permissions and ownership when starting playback.
8. NEW: DSP Studio > Parametric Equalizer has two user channels that can be used to hold temporary data.  For example, you could combine Left and Right into User 1, equalize User 1, and then add the result to the Subwoofer.

But I have having another issue...

I am trying to switch resolutions using "C:\WINDOWS\system32\MC16.exe /monitorswitch 0:1920x1080x32x60". This worked in version .149 but has stopped working for me in this version.

Is this still the correct syntax?

I can see the DOS box pop up and run the command, but the resolution does not change.

Some very old bugs I'd like to see go away:

1. Standard view panes: Pos1 key does not work properly. If you are down in the pane, regardless if Genre, Artist or Album and hit the Pos1 key it brings you up only close to the first entry. You have to hit it twice at least to highlight the first entry whereas the lower pane is refreshed correctly after the first hit

2. Wrong Cover display in 'Recent Albums' Theater view only: If you add a album with a title that is already in your library  (Greatest Hits would be a popular example) MC picks the art from a very recent one. Haven't figured out if it picks the first from the [Album Artist] alphabetical order or just the oldest entry, just never the correct (=most recent) one

3. Unsolicited translation:Just a minor , funny quirk. Only if your MC is non english. If you select an album and hoover over a track a box pops up with detailed information. So far so good. But if one of the main tags is equal to a tag field name this information is translated. Example: If you hoover over the track
'Paris' from 'Places' by 'Brad Mehldau' (filename is Artist - Album - Track - Name) the box shows me
\\server\flac\B\Brad Mehldau\Places (2000)\Brad Mehldau - Orte - 10 - Paris
Now you may know my MC is set to german, anyway it's the same in french and spanish (tested) ...Style by Club 69 turns to Stil etc
Not exactly a problem but I don't see a reason why translation should work on this info box at all

Back from basement where my US keyboard was stored. Yes, it is the home key. Here it doesn't work on all of my machines. Win7 32 + 64 and 2008 R2.

rotten tomatoes has crashed my MC 3 times in a row now

I figured I'd try it, and MC hung for about a minute, then gave a dialog about crashing, and I had no choice but to close MC.

I re-opened, tried finding movie info again, but switched away from RT, but the dialog wouldn't update, it still showed RT, MC wouldn't respond, then crashed again.

I re-opened again, tried again to select something besides RT, but it didn't take and it crashed again.

it seems I can't get it off of trying to use RT to look up info.

I restarted again, tried again, let RT try to find info for about a minute, no response, I could click the drop down to select something else, but as soon as I click Wiki, the drop down closes RT is still chosen, and it eventually crashes.

One last attempt before sleepy time and I wondered if this is due to it failing to find the movie (Shooter; not The Shooter, nor Shooters)

I renamed it to Lord of the Rings (assuming that would be found by RT), and it found the info fine, then let me change to TMDb, which also found it, i accepted it. all was well

I renamed it back to Shooter, tried again, and TMBd found it and I accepted that and now i'm not stuck with RT and I have my info.

When in Red October I see the whole image of my movies. So no cut off images anymore, thanks for that.
However it seems I have no subtitles in mkv movies. When going into Red October and additional filters I do get them with my current settings.

It seems that "resume" isn't working for my DVD files (vob/ifo). I don't know if it didn't before. After noticing this I switched resume playback from "auto" to "ask" so I could check better. The mkv files do work and start where I stopped playing.

I looked at my sidecar file and there's a total different input in "bookmark".

No, Matt - it always crashes when you try to open to the next smartlist - so you've shut the dialog boxes on the old and click to open a new and ... CRASH.

But what if you never close a smartlist dialog while a drop box is open?  In other words, click on the dialog to close the dropbox, then close the dialog.

I can reproduce this, but only if the edit window is closed by clicking the X button on the top right corner when a drop box is open. Cancel and OK do not trigger the problem.
