« on: September 18, 2011, 11:54:30 am »

hello,

went to a concert recently. recorded with my droid and the file is mp4 format. i right click in theater view and go to video options to adjust contrast/brightness/saturation and the gui for it appears it does not allow me to change settings. both bars are stuck on far left. im using logitech mx 5500 ir laser mouse.

have a small candyboard keyboard which i havnt used with mc yet.

this is the first problem of this nature ive had so far

Availability of color controls depends on the video renderer used.

Try Red October Standard or HQ in Options > Video if you haven't.

If you are using Red October, could you pick 'Directshow Filters > Copy graph info to clipboard' and paste it here for one of the movies you're testing?

Thanks.

i use rohq w. additional filters.

under tools>options>video i have video render/decoder/playback method set to automatic.

only change i made was with use hardware acceleration when possible. it was ticked before. i just unticked it.

i cannot say if it made a difference because i am doing receptacle work in my media room currently this week which means i cannot test fully, as i have no amp or tv currently

Red October HQ uses madVR, the highest quality renderer, to render video.

I don't believe that madVR supports color controls at this point.

I would like to confirm the video levels and grey scale I'm getting when playing DVD content ripped to mkv via Red October HQ. Can anyone suggest a calibration file with grey scale and black levels I can use for this? I have DVE, and Getgray, but can't create a suitable mkv file that works.

The reason I'm curious about this is that MadVR doesn't allow adjustment of Contrast and Brightness... fundamental controls to ensure proper greyscale. Under Red October standard I "seem" to have a complete 16-235 greyscale, but note that I cannot see below black by increasing my projector's brightness control, everything below black is missing. The only way to change this is to bump up brightness in MC and then below black is present in the signal passed to the projector.

OK, no answers so next question then. If I play a DVD ripped to mkv via Red October HQ, how are video levels handled through the playback chain to the renderer and beyond? Are levels below 16 and above 235 clipped or lost?
