« on: May 22, 2002, 09:54:55 am »

Media Jukebox 8.0.278 RC (Release Candidate) is available:

[WAIT A MINUTE -- we're working on another that should be out later this afternoon.  If you can wait for it, it should fix a few minor problems reported here.]

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaJukebox8Upgrade.exe

IMPORTANT -- If you have never installed version 8.0, please install the full package first -- available on the downloads page.
http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/download.html

Please back up your library and your license.

History:
1. Changed: Removing tracks from "Playing Now" many times faster.
2. Fixed: Erase CD/RW didn't work with Goldenhawk burning component.
3. Changed: Column header divider double-click now uses MJ's column resizing logic. (works better than the system logic)
4. Fixed: On cancelling secure rip with multiple drives, last track didn't show cancelled status in secure rip log.
5. NEW: Added "Auto Size Columns Now" to list header right-click menu.
6. Fixed: Information message box would replace '&' with underscores.
7. Changed: Resizing of zero width columns no longer disabled.
8. NEW: User can select volume name of blank disc to be burned by renaming tree item.
9. Fixed: Gridline painting now works.
10. Fixed: Media Jukebox could hang when closing in some instances.
11. Fixed: Possible overflow in stream buffering calculations.
12. Fixed: Playing Now drag-n-drop reordering did not always function properly.
13. Fixed: Some tool-tips listed "Music01" instead of "Media Server".
14. Changed: Updated "display quality" logic in visualizations -- more intelligent now.
15. Fixed: Option "save folder structure" in CD burn dialog now works even if all files are in root dir.
16. Fixed: After secure ripping, MJ would sometimes hang when starting to display the results log file.
17. Fixed: Analyzing Replay Gain would slowly leak memory.
18. Fixed: In CD burner options, if you selected "None" for "rearrange folders", it reverted to "artist/album" on the next MJ run.
19. Fixed: VB interface plugins would not always repaint correctly on MJ resizing.
20. Fixed: Analyzing devices should be quicker.
21. Fixed: Context menu would appear in wrong place if the video size is smaller than the window size (Keep Aspect Ratio on).
22. Changed: TV View website list now loaded from the registry.

Bug:
1. Using GoldenHawk driver, if you start a data CD/RW burn and Cancel before the first track is witten, MJ can no longer 'handle' the partially initialized CD/RW disk.  If you insert the CD/RW disk, MJ analyzes it forever...all I wanted to do was insert the CD/RW disk and erase it again (but MJ wouldn't let me do that).  I had to press the Eject button to make MJ stop analyzing and use another piece of software to erase the CD/RW disk...then MJ would 'handle' the disk.
ShowStopper=No

2. MJ crashed immediately after finishing a CD/RW data cd burn (using GH driver) and ejecting the CD, see:

ShowStopper=Yes (if MJ is going to crash everytime after a CD/RW burn)

Update:  I tried the same exact CD/RW burn using the generic driver and MJ crashed in the same place.  Also, I had the CD burn dialog minimized when MJ finished and MJ was playing MP3s during the burn (no tracks to be burned were playing, tho)...hope that info helps too.  Still a ShowStopper if MJ is going to crash everytime a CD/RW is burned.

Reply from JohnT:

ZRocker: MJ crashed immediately after finishing a CD/RW data cd burn (using GH driver) and ejecting the CD, see...
This is fixed in the next build - thanks for reporting it so quickly. I can't reproduce the other problem (cancel cd/rw burn causing freeze-up). Does it do this every time? Do you cancel right away, or during the write process?

Right Clicking on mini-me's vis window and selecting an option in the menu still "clicks through" to the window beneath if that option happens to be over that other window.

14. Changed: Updated "display quality" logic in visualizations -- more intelligent now.

How does this work exactly? I'm not seeing any noticeable difference.

King,
I can't see a problem with the splash screen.  How many colors are you using?

JimH> It's doing the same for me as well. When it first comes up, it's all black and then it kind of wipes into place or something.

It only lasts about a second and then looks normal.

I'm on a 32bit display.

32 bit, ATI all in wonder 32 meg ddr

it worked fine last version, loaded it up before upgrade. after update splash not looking good.

i could try to update again from the html, and not from help.

just registered slide show, it went ok and now registered.

however, when i clicked on the form with Registered To: UNREGISTERED - You Have 24 Days left.... "buy", "Restore", "Ok"

bought it, the form is still showing (maybe it should have closed, or updated from Registered To: UNREGISTERED )

Thanks, the splash screen is fixed now, we think.

King,
We've decide, pending your approval, that if we can't determine who the software is licensed to, we will just display "register to KingSparta".  Is that OK with you?

How does this work exactly? I'm not seeing any noticeable difference.

Now you're picking how many pixels you want to render at most.  Before you were picking a constant scaling factor.

So, at a small size like 200 x 120, all the modes will now be at 1 : 1. (where low quality before would have still been 4 : 1 or like 50 x 30)

At a larger size like 1600 x 1200, each mode will "cap out" at how many pixels it'll draw.  So normal for example will render 640 x 480 at the most, and then just stretch it to fill anything larger.

Hope that makes sense...

Install Bug:
1. The MJ installer leave behind 17meg of install data in the Windows temp directory (in a sub-dir named RarSFXn (n=0 to 9)).  If you install 10 MJ releases, you end up with over 170meg of temp files left behind by MJ's installer.  Seems like the installer should be able to cleanup after itself and not leave so much temp data behind.

JimH,

The O/S is always Win2000 Pro w/SP1.  I assume you are refering to the abandoned installation files.  I had 10 RarSFXn sub-dirs that I had to manually purge (this morning) to get back 170|PLS| meg MJ was consuming (that I didn't know about).

JimH,

Wherever your Environment Variable TEMP and/or TMP is setup for.  Mine is 'G:\Temp' for each...yours will differ.

JimH,
If you are using Win2K or XP, the temp directory will actually be under "Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temp".  I only see the ~17mb ZRocker talked about originally, though...

Sorry about that: the directory should be: \Documents and Settings\(user name here)\Local Settings\Temp\

ZRocker, how do you do new installs?  I use the automatic update from within MJ and I only have one directory (0).  I'm wondering if that is how you got more directories than me...

S74,

I always use FTP to download the full or upgrade installation .EXE file and run the installation file.

The leftover file problem you reported, Zrocker, happens when installation is aborted for any reason.  At least that's our theory.  This won't be changed in this release.

JimH,

I've never aborted any of the 100's of beta v8.0 installs...however, I do use the Express install option always.  Could it be Express that is 'aborting' the install (before full completion)?  Also, I checked my Win2k Pro laptop and it has the same leftover RarSFXn sub-dirs in the Temp directory (going back months...I install MJ less frequently on my laptop).
