Is there a way to retag files on syncing to a portable device?
Maybe something like this is possible but I have missed it in the options
If not, here's a thought
With all the various ways that portable devices can play files, I'd love to have a way to retag the files when they sync
(some automatic retag, or library field substitution)
eg
As is, my portable devices list files (and play them) in artist and then album order
Now, if I want to listen to the albums in chronological order I'm out of luck - unless I wanted to change the main library's album names to include the year in them (not ideal)
If the tags could be substituted (mapped to different fields maybe?) on sync then I'd be a happy lad
You could create a custom filed YearAlbum that would be the year and album name, and remap Album to YearAlbum when syncing
Even better would be a way to retag based on the files properties
If sometag=audiobook, retag album with seriesname-bookname
If sometag=podcast, retag album and artist with podcast title, date+name
etc etc
