Gizmo can't find server
« on: December 21, 2011, 05:01:32 am »

I thought I had done everything correctly...
I have opened port 52199 and sent it to my server
I have tested this via the connection test within MC and it does not report a problem
I have tested port via external websites that check if ports are open
I can access MC via Gizmo on Android while connected to local wifi network
I have a static IP address

But I can't...
Connect to server from 3G wireless network (Optus for those in Aus)
Connect to server from Gizmo on Android when connected to wifi network at work

I figured that work network may block this port but I would not have thought that wireless network or my ISP would?

Gizmo reports the message "Thee was a prblem connecting to the server".

Any suggestions. Have I missed a step?

Thanks
Craig

Try selecting a different port, as a test.

Tools - Options - Media Network - Advanced - TCP Port.

Make sure to port forward it to your server.

I wasn't able to use JRiver's default port suggestion, but it worked fine after I switched it.

Can you connect when you're using your wireless LAN?

There is an article called "Network Access" on our wiki.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have read the wiki (first to admit that doesn't equate to always understanding).

Yes I can connect using my wireless LAN.

It is only from outside my LAN that I have trouble.

So I assumed it was a port forwarding issue, but I have forwarded the port to the correct machine, and I have done the test under MC and it does not report an issue.

I tried a different port this morning (22199) and reset the access key and retested.  I also put exceptions in Windows Firewall, still no luck.  Then disabled Windows Firewall and still no luck.  [I could connect within the LAN as before, but not externally]

OK, as typing this I tried pinging machine from here and with other web pages that do the same, and no luck.  But the same sites say the port 22199 on the same ip address is open.  So I am assuming it must be reachable behind my router but pinging is denied?  I guess I need to check more things on my router.

Is there anything other than the port that needs to be open for Gizmo to work?  Must it also be pingable?

Thanks

Ok.  got it working.
Overly restricted firewall at work stops all unnecessary traffic on work network.
Mobile phone was not connecting to correct network on phone.  once i corrected the phone settings all is good inthe land of gizmo.

Only thing that i think could think thatwould have helped me was a little bit more debugging info.  not sure if that is even possible but if it was it would be great.  obviously JRiver cannot solve all of my networking woes but if there is something you can think of to help point...

anyways thanks for the replies
