changes to the way video cover art is handled?
« on: December 29, 2011, 02:04:05 am »

I am currently using 17.0.59 and none of the videos i have have imported since this update have cover art.
Rebuild thumbnail does nothing, and quick find does nothing.
For cover art i store folder.jpg beside the file(s) and i don't use sidecars.
if i change the folder.jpg to the same name as the video, it then shows up.

I assume this is happening because of this update:
Quote
Changed: When importing a new video (or when using Cover Art > Quick Find in Cover Art Folder), only cover art next to the file is detected

Must the cover art be named the same as the video?
Are folder.jpg's no longer an option for videos in MC?

Another thing that is happening is Sidecar.xml's are being added to all of my videos even though i don't have that option selected.
Is this suppose to be happening?

I'm assuming changes are happening in MC for how it deals with videos and these aren't bugs.

Are there more critical changes on the way?
Is now the time to start updating the way i organize my videos or should i wait for another big change around the corner?

Any info appreciated.
Thanks

It appears that once my cover art was saved as the same name as the video and placed next to it, the sidecars stopped being created.
I deleted them all a few days ago and they haven't been back.

In a coming build:
Changed: When importing videos (or doing quick find cover art), sidecar Folder.jpg images will be used if no [Filename].jpg image is found.
Changed: Folder.jpg files stored one level above the VIDEO_TS or BDMV folders will be used if no other sidecar artwork is found.

We will find and use your existing Folder.jpg images.  If you change art, we will use the new naming scheme (which nicely supports per-video and per-episode artwork which is problematic with Folder.jpg).

I can't explain the sidecar creation with the option off, so please let us know if it happens again.

Thanks.

Thank You.
The changes sound perfect.
They will make dealing with cover art simple and automatic.
I really like everything that has happened with cover art recently.

I just updated my MC17 installation to the latest version.

Folder.jpg is no longer being recognized for videos, as was described above.  All my options are set properly and an MC16 installation on the same PC finds and uses the folder.jpg coverart with no problem.

The only way for me to get the cover art into MC17 is to manually import it for each movie, pointing each one to the preexisting folder.jpg.

The noteworthy thing is that when I do this, MC17 generates a NEW file for each movie, called [videoname].jpg

So if I have "Alien" in a folder with its sidecar and folder.jpg coverart, I import that into MC17 and it processes the sidecar but I get no coverart.  I then manually point it to folder.jpg, at which point it generates Alien.jpg and now I have two coverart files.

This does not seem to be consistent with the behavior Matt just described, or appropriate.

Im using 17.0.64 and cover art works perfect for me.

I just auto imported about 30 videos.
One season of TV and a few movies, all with folder.jpg for cover art.
After import, all cover art showed up automatically.
I selected all videos and did 'save cover art to external location specified in options'.
This saved the folder.jpg to MC's cover art naming conventions for all videos.
Very simple and fast. i like it.

I have all of my movies in individual folders.  In each folder is the MPG of the movie, a sidecar file, and a folder.jpg file.

This configuration worked perfectly in MC16 and previously in MC17.

The folder.jpg is no longer being honored in the current version of MC17, which insists on creating a [moviename].jpg file after I manually add the folder.jpg as cover-art.

Matt, what should be happening here?

Thanks...

wer, make sure you're using 17.0.64 (or newer).

Import and also Cover Art > Quick Find will find Folder.jpg for videos using that build.

Thanks, Matt.  Upgraded to .68 and the problem with cover art is resolved.

Still have the fast forward problem though, despite your buffering suggestion, as discussed here:
