Importing existing blu-ray ISO rips in MC17 library ?
« on: December 08, 2011, 01:15:10 pm »

Hi,
I do not understand how to import bluray ISO files (generated by AnyDVD HD) into MC17, and then populate cover and tags.
I am at a point where I can double click on an ISO file in Windows Explorer and it will play in MC17 (automatically going through VirtualCloneDrive), but I do not understand the import flow into the library for ISO-BD.

I have done my homeworks and searched through the forums, but bits and pieces are scattered all over the place over several versions of MC.  I have a fair number of ISO files hence would not use the rip process (to a BD folder) described in the wiki.  I would also like to keep them as ISO.

Would a kind fellow enlighten me please oh please  :)
Thank you all, for a great program but also a great community !

Hi Rudy

It's actually quite straightforward once you get the JRiver tagging methods for different filetypes.

Iso files (because they aren't necessarily movie files) are imported as a type 'data'.

So in order to import them and tag them with useful cover art and information you need to do the following:

Firstly, import the iso files into the MC library, you can either do this manually or set up an automatic rule. Both are just as easy, so I will describe what I do which is the automatic way. I save all of my iso files in a folder on my 2nd HD eg. H:\bluray\moviename. So go to Tools->Import in MC, select 'Configure auto-import', Add this folder in the 'Add..' bit, and then 'Browse..'.. Select the 'Disk image files (iso, etc.)' under the 'Video' (or is it 'data'?) heading. I leave everything else unchecked for this rule since I only have iso files in this folder. Hit 'finish' and it should run the auto-import rule. (the advantage of this is if you add any more bluray to this folder it will automatically add the file to MC).

Secondly, for all the iso files you need to change the 'Media type' to Video (and Movie if you wish in the Media Subtype). In order to do this you need to select all of the 'iso' files that you have just imported. You'll find them in the Playlist->recently imported (on the left pane). So once you've selected all of them (Shift-click on the range or just Ctrl-A unless you've recently imported other files) you then need to go to the bottom left to open the tagging pane (Tag). Right click anywhere in this pane and 'show all tags'. Find the 'Media type', click it and select 'Video', find 'media subtype' and select 'movie'. All your iso's will now be in the Video subheadings, but still without cover art or other tags.

Thirdly, the interesting bit, finding the information. Just do this as you would any other movie file, by right clicking etc.

In your Automatic mode, you can set an auto-tagging rule to set the Media Type upon import.  See the bottom of the Configure Auto-Import dialog.

Doh!

Of course, yes! Thanks MrC.

I am currently serving the 40day pre-Xmas ban from buying gadgets, movies and music (just in case Santa's Elves have been busy!). So I haven't imported any new stuff for a while, so I'd forgotten about the new tagging on import thingy. Yes, much better! I just described my old-fashioned tried and tested method!

I'm sure I'll set up some new rules on Boxing Day!(I've been good this year!)

I'm sorry, but I'm still not understanding all of this... I've got the pre-existing ISO files imported into the MC Library, and I've changed the filetypes from Data to Video.

So now, all the files are showing up in the Videos/Movies collection. All well and good, but I thought that selecting a title in the Theater view and selecting "Watch" would play it - just like my ripped DVD files.

No, this doesn't happen, I just get a couple of flashes in the UI. However, if I step back from the Movies view of the library, and choose Bluray, then the movie I've just selected will start playing.

This seems to be somewhat confusing. Have I got things set up right?

I should note that all my movie rips reside on WHS 2011. The DVDs are ripped (using AnyDVD) into Video_TS folders. The Blu-rays are ripped (again using AnyDVD) to ISO files residing in folders given the film title. This collection has XML files generated by MyMovies in all the folders.

Thanks

OK, now it seems to be working: double-clicking a Bluray movie listed in the Movie wall is now starting the movie.

I made a couple of changes, either or both could have been the factor that made it work:

1) I changed from Directshow Audio to WASAPI, and in order for that to work, I had to:
2) Upgrade from Catalyst 11.4 drivers to Catalyst 12.1...

So, I'm one step closer. Now I need to figure out how to get Subtitles shown on Blurays...
