PowerDVD support
« on: January 22, 2012, 07:52:07 am »

I am relatively new to the software and have had trouble trying some of the methods mentioned on the forums to address blu-ray ripping and playback. I was curious as to if there was an option to configure Media Center to use an external program to play blu-ray movies (such as CyberLink PowerDVD 11)?  I would like to try to avoid having to purchase AnyDVD HD or the like...

You can select external playback for specific types in Options > File Types.

WIll give it a try thanks.  Hopefully this will work for blu-ray movie playback via physical media.

So i went to options -> File Types -> Other -> Blu-ray (bluraydisc).  I left File Association alone and changed Playback Method to "External Program (custom)" and selected the drive path to the executable of PowerDVD11 (in this case, C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD11\PowerDVD11.exe).  I then tried to start a blu-ray disc by right clicking on the disc under "Drives & Devices" and selecting Play.  JRiver sits at a black background with the movie poster up with "* Opening..." at the bottom of the screen and never actually plays.  Is something wrong with the configuration?  Is MC not compatable with PowerDVD?
