Plug - In Manager crashing
« on: May 11, 2002, 02:25:55 am »

Jim,

As you requested, I'm starting a new thread on this one. Did an uninstall - reinstall last night and MJ is still killing the machine when an encoder is selected from the Plug - In manager. It is the latest build, and before you suggest it, I do have the latest drivers installed. Whatever the guys changed from 265 to 267 in the manager is not behaving very well with my setup. Doesn't seem to make a difference if MJ is playing or sitting idle.

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.270

CPU: Intel Pentium II 333 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 130 MB, Free - 61 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 98 SE

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4704.1100
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 4.72.3812.600
wnaspi32.dll: 2, 0, 0, 0 , ASPI for WIN32 DLL, Copyright © Adaptec 1995
Aspi32.sys: N/A

Forgot to add : Trying to install encoder Plug-Ins from the encoder page caused a crash also. Right now I'm not able to even get them to install with the package installer. This was initially thought ( by me ) to be an MPEG Plus problem. However, trying to get the standard mp3 plug-in last night caused lock up. Hope this helps.

This could be a problem with the registry.  I'm guessing that MJ thinks a plugin that is missing is there, or vice versa.  Check your plugins directory under Program Files/JRiver/MediaJukebox.

If you're comfortable with the registry, take a look at the entries there for plugins.

Jim,

Tried another approach. Left MJ shutdown and installed the plug-ins with no problems. Seems to crash when MJ is running. I'll do a little more tinkering and see if it still acts up. Maybe something I'm doing, but can't guess as to what it may be. Have done this in the past with no changes to how I'm currently doing it. Let you know what happens.

Thanks - Mike

Jim,

Apparently installing without MJ running cured this errant behavoir. Now I can select at will with no crashes. Sometimes I'd like to club this machine to death. Can't help but wonder how many times I've seen these gremlins come and go over the years. Like nothing ever happened...

Kind of ruins a good barn-burning, doesn't it?
