Covert Art (and Multiple Disc Films)
« on: February 17, 2012, 05:02:13 am »

Hiya,

I noticed yesterday that for multiple diss films, i.e. where the actual film is split across many disks/sides covert art is not working for me. Now I guess it's the way i'm structuring things;

Movies\Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring, The [Disc 1]
Movies\Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring, The [Disc 2]
Movies\Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King, The [Disc 1]
Movies\Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King, The [Disc 2]
Movies\Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers, The [Disc 1]
Movies\Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers, The [Disc 2]
Movies\Schindler's List [Side A]
Movies\Schindler's List [Side B]

etc etc.

Also, I noticed Alien Resurrection had downloaded the cover art for Cowboys and Aliens, so how is the match made?

It's all irrevelant to me anyway as I manage artwork for films myself manually - I like to get the original poster artwork from when the film was released so you don't get any of the current logos and branding (DVD/BluRay, Triple Play banners etc). How would I apply my own artwork locally to Media Center. I don't like storing folder.jpg's in the Movie folder itself as I found with Windows Media Center it slowed things down quite a lot, so I like'd the way WMC stored the artwork locally.

This kind of box set function is not available today. Unfortunately... You can use workaround solutions like adding Series to them, and using the name without CD1 2 and so on, and then adding these as items in views so it only shows one item. The automatic function of getting covers probably use the "Name" field, which in your case consists of CD1 and CD2. Year is also used for the lookup I think. So it will not find any good match for those. A manual lookup is needed to remove the CD in the name.

The cover art for movies is stored today as "filename.jpg". This is a system that have just been introduced. You could put the cover art in separate folders earlier. There is no way of putting these covers in other location currently without much manual work (updating the image field URL). Unless you use the folder structure for browsing with Explorer, this is nothing to worry about though. There will not be any noticeable slowdown because of this. MC is far ahead of WMC when it comes to speed and efficiency.
