Two issues - WMV & AVI
« on: March 10, 2012, 01:26:14 pm »

A - Tried to play some AVIs  and got the message "Failed to connect Audio decoder to source / splitter"

Using GSpot, I saw the audio codec as "WMA v2".
The playback method is set to "Automatic".
Plays well in MPC

B - I have wmv file that does not play in MC.  I simply see black and the file does not start to play.

This wmv file is:
video: WVC1
audio: Windows Media Audio 9 Professional

WMV playback is set to use JRiver Engine with Direct Show filters
Plays well in MPC

This happens to my files sometimes. I just change the value in [File Type] field to correspond with what G Spot says. Works most of the time. I don't think this is MC fault it must be because somewhere along the line the video clip got its' extension changed.

It would be nice if instead of throwing up an error message that mc would try to play the file as a different file type until it works and then update the [File Type] filed itself. Although it isn't that much of a hassle to change it manually because it doesn't happen that often to me.

But until I figured that out I was unnecessarily converting my video files to get them to work - a lengthy procedure.

I've had this happen to me too. For some of my files I had to convert them to get them to work. Although I've head that converting wmv files is not advised as the converted file will be degraded quality. I don't know of a better solution.

Additional note for the AVI:

Here is the GSpot for the AVI.  Filetype is AVI.   I got over 50 of them.

Hi,
I am using MC since 14 for large collection videoclips random play on the bar, they are on mpg1 and mpg2, avi and now some with mp4 and wmv3 , I have a computer with XP sp2 and new graphic card (ASUS EAH6450) with MC 16.0.181.
The problem when I recently upgraded the computer and from 16.0.063 to .181 in the end of the wmv music file the playlist stop playing i have changed to older MC version and still not going... to next song.
I don't mind to upgrade to MC17 if this would solve the problem. I wrote on this topic because there was here a similar problem...
I already had the last driver for the graphics card , i donīt know if the problem is there , but i notice that i have to play it with windows media engine in file type wmv and with red October set to standart to play it properly (except in the end stops not going to next song), i also notice when playing wmv on top of the screen where is filename and time add ex: 690k/b variable vel. transmission.
On last Sarane post say updated to 17 on XP and still having same issue ? I was waiting for a answere there but...
Help me please... i believe there is a solution (i don't know what is wrong, even with my small experience on the great jr MC) and the great team behind this always sort the problems.
thank you for your attention
p.s. I am Portuguese, sorry about my English
