Positive Replay Gain
« on: April 16, 2012, 09:37:50 am »

Hello,
I was very pleased using Replay Gain, until I got a CD with some very dynamic tracks.
The calculated replay gain is positive (+26.3dB....) but tracks peek at OdBFS, so playback is horribly marred by distorsion (even with 'clip protection').

I think there should be an option in MC to limit playback replay gain with respect to the 0dBFS margin of the track, in order to prevent any distorsion at playback.

Thank you in advance (sorry for my poor english),

If you use 'Automatic' adjustment in DSP Studio > Volume Leveling, the peak level will be used along with the replay gain so that no clipping will occur.

Hummm... and everything with negative replay gain is played back at full level (adjustement ~ -replaygain), so far I can see. This is not the option for me... because I need "normal" tracks (negative replaygain, 99.9% of my library) be played at reference level.

If you play a playlist of 10 tracks, all with a Replay Gain of -10 dB, there's really no reason to turn every song down by -10 dB.

Automatic adjustment understands this and only turns the volume down as much as necessary.

There is at least one: apply referenced physiological compensation.

I need an option to limit total correction up to track headroom (or easier: apply only negative replaygain values). It will do nothing most of the time.
