I believe that all black allows you see the Music art and text better. I prefer to see the album art,text and choices and not the player. White is a highlighter. It forces viewers to look at the white area first before anything else. Plus All black is easier on the eyes.

I think the default Noire for the most part is really nice, but it could do without stuff like the excessive borders and some of the "3d" effects. Not really keen on having the default being really dark, but then again I'm sure it'll grow on me

I did a few tweaks to Noire for myself a few years ago (and recently changed some minor things, like the sliders), and have been running like this since:

I quite like the all black skin, although I'm more of a rectangular button kind of guy. I find it looks more sleek than circular ones. Hopefully a new mano skin next maybe

So true, I had a little go and got nowhere.

I find the most time consuming element is when you make a little change and then you have to manually reload the skin to see it. It would be nice if mc could enter a skinning mode where it would periodically check for skin changes itself (Maybe every few seconds) and update its view. You could then hookup two monitors, one for notepad++ and mc (and maybe theatre view) on the other. This way it would save a great deal of time skinning because you would see the changes as you went along with zero effort.

I agree with Matt. Noire is hard to beat.

I do like the new screenshots though. Especially with the glass explanation from Matt.

Are there any borders between section in the all black, or is the idea to get rid of them?

In the example above, the borders and background in all black are almost identical. To my eye, it all blends together.

This is very different from the Noire default view, where the distinction is clear between the white backgrounds and grey borders. Each primary "area" of the standard view has a specific function (tag, library, filename, Album Art etc.,), so the borders are important.

This is true for newcomers to the software. Clearly defined interface areas definitely help when learning where to go to get something done, and learning how each area is referred to. I remember this well, and I think you raise a valid point for consideration with a default skin. Bear in mind though, it could still be possible to have clearly defined boundaries that are not "in yer face" so to speak.

For me, once I had learned my way around, I began to find all those area defining borders and garish scroll bars really quite noisy and intrusive, To that end, every skin I've turned out over the past year or so has attempted to smooth those boundaries away as much as possible... It's much easier on the eye that way, I find.
