dff file won't convert to 176.4
« on: May 31, 2012, 09:45:29 pm »

Hello all.  My first post.

My set-up:

Windows 7/64 on an HP desktop PC with i5 and 4G ram.
Media Centre 17.0.147
WASPI event style to Berkeley Alpha USB
Everything working fine and can play back 44.1, 96, 176.4 and 192 material directly.

So MC plays a 176.4 download fine.

Recently made a "test rip" of a few tracks of an SACD with a PS3 to produce .dff files (would do .dss on others).

MC sees the files as 64 bit 352.8 64 bit 2 channel, but shows a pop-up offereing to play it back at 96kHz 2 channel.
But I would like to convert it to 176.4 24 bit 2 channel.

Is there a way?

Thanks.

Welcome.

You can configure resampling in DSP Studio > Output Format > Sample Rate.

Hi Matt,

Thanks.  Yes, for "over 192" I have it set to 176.4, but the pop-up only offers 96.

I meant ".dsf" - not ".dff" in the previous post.

If you see a popup, it means the setting you're using isn't supported by your hardware (and it's offering a setting that will work).

You could try a few different sample rates and see what works.

Hi Matt and thanks again.  As noted in the OP, the hardware does support 176.4.  I can play a 176.4 .flac file.  Actually during that, the numbers "176k4" appear on my DAC front panel. So I am confused as to why the popup does not offer 176.4 as an option for the .dff file.

Edit.  Now the thread might as well end.  I just tried it again after closing and reopening MC and it plays at 176.4, so I don't know why it was doing that before - I didn't change anything.  Anyway, it's working.   Incidentally MC did crash a few times while trying this today, so maybe it's just a stability thing related to my computer.

Sorry for my .dff/.dsf dyslexia.  ;D

I have run into a couple of problems in the past with SACD audio files and I just used AudioGate to convert them from their native 1 bit/2822.4KHz resolution to 16 bit/176.4KHz (2822.4/16=176.4) and have never noticed any quality loss what so ever, YMMV.
