Sure, just set up a  'location' based view on the content. Pretty sure there is a 'disk location' view by default that you can use as a starting point.

How do you setup up a location based on your content?
I have over 19K albums, and want to keep them in Genre folders. I would like to choose albums to play from genre groups instead of the many thumbnails shows.
Can anyone help?

You should have a view under Audio in the tree that says "Files".  Will that work?

If not, you can customize a view.  Start with a right click on an existing view.

Yes, you can set up almost any view/sorting you like in Media Center.

Right click on the AUDIO node in the Tree and choose "Add Library View"
In the Dialog window that opens chose the view you like (I'd recommend "Panes: Genre, Artist, Album" for what you want)

That should pretty much do it.  If you like you can further customize the Categories, change the View name, or set rules as to which files should be included in this view.

Personally I think you are trying to go about using MC all wrong - you should be using the Genre Tag to group by Genre.  Not saying you can't continue to store your stuff in folder by Genre, but once it is in MC the actual physical location should not normally come in to play.  The fact that your Genre tag data and your physical location match up may be useful for importing/renaming stuff - but should just be coincidental from a general use standpoint.  Just my 2 cents.  If the thought of tagging all of your files sounds daunting, you can use the 'fill properties from file-name' and pull the Genre from your file path.

As to helping you 'from scratch', it is a pretty unusual request.  I personally don't have the time to document step by step what is necessary - but you should have a delivered 'by location' view already in the system that you can look at for a starting point.  You might get more help by first using the wiki and the existing views as guides and coming here with specific questions when you are stuck.  That being said there are lots of very helpful people on here so it is not out of the question that someone may put together such a step by step guide for you.

Just as an FYI: I store my stuff in folders by 'where it came from' primarily for backup reasons.  If it came from a physical CD, my backup needs are much lower than if it came from an online purchase that I can't re-download without repurchasing.  I occasionally use 'by location' views for cleanup and management but my main playback is through tag based views (I have a 'Genre' view that I could swear also came out of the box).
