Video thumbnails grey after upgrading to MC17
« on: August 17, 2012, 05:19:37 am »

Hi All,

I have a fair number of video and images in my library (315499 files, 19.2 MB in library, 1.2 GB in thumbnails). I upgraded to MC17 from MC16 recently and found that I had to rebuild all the thumbnails, an inconvenience, but I left it to run overnight. It didn't report any errors the next morning.

However, I have noticed that some of the video thumbnails (approx. 30%) are now corrupt. They show a grey cast over the top of the image. Some are worse than others.

I had my "Capture video thumbnails at..." setting to 10 seconds. I changed that to 5 seconds and rebuilt one of the video thumbnails.. that worked fine! On further investigation it appears that the grey cast on the thumbnail appears at different settings. It's OK at 5 seconds, but not at 10, 3, or 2 for example.

Since this has corrupted a good percentage of all my video thumbnails I decided to quit MC17, backup the thumbnails directory and copy over the MC16 thumbails dirs into the MC17 install dir. On restarting MC17, the thumbnails looked fine.. until I ran the Import and the new thumbnails created by MC17 have the grey cast over them! So it's definitely an issue that's been introduced by MC17.

One of the main purposes I use MC is to quickly scan some IP camera feeds. By creating a thumbnail 10 seconds into a video I can see if there is anything of interest and process the feeds quickly. Since upgrading I can no longer do that because of this grey corruption issue.

Any ideas? Would really like to see this fixed asap.. otherwise I'll be going backwards to MC16 instead.

Happy to provide more technical detail.

Just have to say.. I'm  a long time fan of MC and this is the first real issue that's caused me any pain, aside from this issue IMHO it's the best media manager / viewer out there by far and I'm looking forward to seeing what MC18 has to offer.
