How to move videos from one default category to another
« on: August 06, 2012, 02:52:57 am »

I apologize if this is unclear. I just downloaded the trial of JRiver, and I really, really like what I see. However, I have an issue.

I imported some media files from a folder on my external hard drive. They are all movies, but some are of shorter length (~1 hour or less). The auto-sorting mechanism labeled the longer ones as movies, but the shorter ones as television series. When I go into theater view, I have to switch to the television section to see the rest of my movies (some remain under the movies tab, some under the television tab). How would I go about switching the movies from the television category to the movie category so they all show up under movies? I tried searching and didn't find much of anything, and the wiki was a little obtuse on this point.

Also, while I'm asking (but admittedly off topic a bit), how do I create "Seasons?" If you have a wiki link that explains how to do it, that should suffice.

Thank you for your help in advance.

The tag/field "Media subtype" needs to be changed on the incorrect files.  This should then make them show up in the correct place.  In the left hand side bar, go to Action Window and select Tag, this lists all of the available fields. Simply scroll down to Media Subtype.  With all the wrong files selected change the field value.

In this same list of fields/tags you can select a group of shows with the same season and fill the season tag (and others such as Series and Episode).  I am not sure, but presume the default theater views will then work with series/season/episode.  If not it is a bigger explanation that I am sure someone has a link to..

The best way of handling this imo, is to set Auto Import on a per "Media Sub Type" basis with specific media folders (Movies, Series/TV Shows, Album Artists, Various Artists etc), and add the option to set the Media Sub Type manually to Series, Movies or what ever.

That will make such complications non existent in the future. MC tries to predict the media type (called Carnac) based on several criterias, but it can fail sometimes.

A tremendous thank you to the both of you. I appreciate the help; now I can edit my media library with impunity.

Where do I set the Auto import to a "per media subtype" basis?

File -> Library -> Import -> Configure Auto Import. Add a folder to watch for new media, hit "Add" under "Apply these tags".

There you have a few Media Sub Types. You can also add what ever kind of tags you want here. Just add a custom, add a field for the value, and write the value. For example "TV Show" for the "Media Sub Type" Field. Without the quotation marks.
