Linux Q&A

JimH

Like to move this out of the beta thread also.

Does this mean there may be a future release of MJ that will be compatible with Macs? The Mac OS is based on this somehow isn't it?

OSX is based on Mach, I think, which came from Carnegie Mellon, and is "Unix like".  Linux is also "Unix like", but otherwise unrelated to Mach.

Don't know where we're going next, except that we will work on porting to Linux in the background.

JimH,

if you want to distribute your MJ for free, why do you take the hassle to port it to Linux, you could distribute your current version for freeNext Page
Most Linux users feel it is a human right to get software for freeNext Page
For them free software is a way of life!

You miss the point. We will see soon Linux desktops NOT FREE.Like Windows .People using it will come from Windows and will buy softwares as we do
I dream about Mac.But the mean if not only raison to have a computer is related to music for me
And there is not that much softwares for Macs.A MJ version with some more plug in[trim,mp3 check] will make me move to Macs, even if they are not cheap

Not all Linux software is free, and many Linux users don't mind paying for quality software. Plus I think they're all more interested in open source than free (although open source is pretty much free by definition). I hope I'm not invoking the mantra of a certain you-know-who. I'm not trying to.

Besides, most Windows users believe software should be free too.

It'd be nice to see Linux have more than just Winamp for a media player.

zevele10,

Me too. I love the look if nothing else. Ever see their studio displays? Like a piece of art versus the monster sitting on my desk now.

You can have MM on Linux ,even Macs?
I use many "free softwares"-$20 a cdw with 1000 programs on it.
Many of them i am really happy to stole them, include Windows
Other smaller friendly softwares,i just buy it-even if i have a crack-GetRight-Total Recorder-
and some others.

I don't think if I had a software company that I would give it away for free, since the people who work for me and I would like to eat, buy a car, pay the mortgage etc.

Just a thought, maybe a business would like to make money, call me crazy

Porting MJ on Linux would be great. That's an app I miss when I'm not working with Windows.
Best would be then to have a WMA plugin
Yep. I know. Officially it's not possible, and as far as I know it's hasn't been "ported" to Linux.
When will U release a beta then, I'd love to test that.
Have a great day
