Getting Help for MJ or MC
« on: October 23, 2012, 12:27:23 pm »

I got rid of WMP11 and use MJ and love it's features and abilities. Now that my free trial is over I'd like to ask some simple questions. I just need a MUSIC PLAYER, I don't need MC for pictures or videos and think fifty bucks is a bit much to only use it for one of it's three functions. I am 53 yrs. young and have NO interest in the "social networks" that people are addicted to these days. I use mail, phone, e-mail and good old talking to people face to face.  I like MJ and MC but don't like being forced to learn and use a system I don't believe in just to ask a question. New technology is great but sometimes it's too much too fast and the "old ways" shouldn't be eliminated until everyone stops using them!

My 2 cents...

You want MC for the following reasons:

  - MC is continually updated; MJ has gone stale
  - MC owners, I've noticed, get faster, higher quality help from JRiver and the community, and that's worth the price of admission

Just ignore/disable the features you don't/won't use.

This won't help at all, but I'm compelled to clear-up some apparent misunderstanding about technology time-lines. Even according to Star Trek mythology, the transporter is not even invented until the 22nd century, and not in wide use until the 24th. So much for MC users meeting face-to-face. On the other hand, the predecessors of this forum technology—Usenet and BBS—date back to the 1970's. While not as ubiquitous as email, it's been around for almost as long and is used by many millions. Some of us old farts eschew social networks for the purpose of providing community support because they're almost as useless as the telephone or email for that purpose. Get on the bus! ;)

Just pointing out to a fellow geezer this is actually our generation's technology and the last bastion of 'anti-social media'.  ;D

I overheard a conversation the other day between a young guy and an elderly man. That young fella was rambling about how he is growing up with internet, social media, mobile phones, lightspeed computing, electric cars and even space exploration. "All that stuff we can't possibly expect you old folk to understand and cope with", he said. After a few seconds silence, the old man looks at the young boy and says, "You're right, we didn't have all that stuff you have. That's why we invented them! Now tell me what YOU are doing for the next generation..."

Startled, the young guy got up and left.
