Picking a zone in Theater View
« on: November 28, 2012, 04:52:02 am »

I have quite a few zones set up, so when I'm in Theater View I have to scroll far to the right under "More" to change zone. Wouldn't it be better to have the zones in a sort of pop up window? Preferably with an indicator of the active zone, like a check mark.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a great idea? :)

I agree it is a headache to switch zones in Theater View. I have programmed a button on my mouse to do it. But I don't find it ideal, though.
I hope there will be some development at some point regarding this.

If you have not already done so, check out the brand new ZoneSwitch feature which will do it for you automatically.

(Which may or may not work for your individual situation.)

Ctl+T (which can be programmed into a remote).  ;)

Oh, and there are theatre view skins available that will display the current zone.

you could add this on the root page of Theater View yourself. and with 18 apparently easier then before. for instance, add a new category to the root and add an external programm and put /mcc 10011,3 in the command line, the program already points to mc18.exe. disable the hide mediacenter etc.. and give it the name refering to this zone. the 3 at the end of the command is the zone number. it starts at 0 (in the past you had to use numbers like 67108864, i thought it was broken, but it changed :) )... you can also add the zone name to the skin, i have that, you might find a reference at the forum with the skins. :)

Better yet, add a Root Library Item called Zones, and then add each individual zone as a sub-item of that.

Then, you'll just hit Green Button (to go back home), pick Zones, and then choose the appropriate Zone from the list.

Personally I would prefer n-number of small buttons in the upperleft-corner (or something) of theater-view, where I can click at each zone irrespective of which menu I'm in - except of course during movie-playback and alike. I think menu-jumping is annoying when it comes to zone-switches - that is of course a spoiled point of view :-).

To each their own, of course.

But, for me, Theater View + Clicking Buttons = Not Ideal.  I almost never have my mouse accessible when I'm using Theater View, and even if I do, I prefer the remote.  It just isn't designed for mouse usage, IMHO.

It works better on a Touchscreen, but small buttons don't work well there, so...

In any case, if you wanted to do this, you probably could with a custom skin, but I don't know for sure (or how).

gappie,
this doesn't work - the external program item cannot be nested under a new main root "Zones" entry! And the program doesn't let me create an external program item into an existing main root item. It always wants to be an own root item.
Tell us please how to do it correctly or tell us what we do wrong
thanks

ill try  :)
in options>Theater View choose add>category. name it for instance Zones

to this category add a external program. put /mcc 10011,0 (0 for the first zone, 1 for the second etc) in the command line, disable the hide mediacenter. when it shows up in the root, just move it under the zones categorie and nest it there.

the result

or in obsidian

i hope this helps  :P
