I just got an iPod video and tried to sync it in MC 18. It starts the sync fine, but after a little while (few seconds to a minute) MC 18 closes abruptly. I have a temporary fix, which is to open MC 17 which syncs the iPod just fine, but I'd like to get this fixed in 18.
Specs:
Windows 7
MC 18.0.51 (doesn't work in 18.0.67 either)
iPod model MB029LL
Last 3 digits of Serial Y5N
iPod is 80gb

In the few seconds that the sync will work it does actually put music onto the iPod. Also, it seems to make the problem worse (closes immediately) if I have the iPod details page open in MC. If the sync takes place in the background it lasts a little longer.

Other random thing is that 18 seems to sync fine with my iPod photo.

OK, so apparently the iPod was incorrectly listed as a 5th gen, because when I checked out the serial number it turns out to be a 6th gen . . .

Update: i got a new ipod which really is a 5.5 gen video. It does the same thing. Closes MC 18 as soon as I start to sync. I've tried reinstalling and still the same issue. Anyone have ideas or similar problems?
